Cashmere keeps you about 8 times warmer than any other fabric and it really shows in the Winter. I was wearing a Cashmere Dress from mongolia (I dont think it's the highest quality) but when I forgot my coat in the car and we had to wait for 1 hour outside, oh yes...I noticed how Cashmere kept me warmer than any other fabric....like magic. I think that's the whole purpose of Cashmere

In some cases a blend of silk and decent cashmere can be very desirable, the silk increases strength, and thus durability, as well as 'body' or stiffness, whilst still being a skin friendly, natural fabric.
@SidharthThapar3 жыл бұрын
We buy grade A cashmere fibre from Mongolia for about 140-150 USD/Kg usually at 15.5 microns avg, but it being a short fibre, we lose some during dyeing, combing, spinning and weaving in-house. We supply indirectly to few of the brands mentioned above, and they usually use grade B for sweaters and grade A for scarfs, depends on if it’s next to skin or not. Blends are not always to cut cost and it increases avg length and helps us process cashemere.

Club Room cashmere sweaters have been my mom's go-to Christmas gift for me for a while and up until the past 2 years, they've been great. I tried on a new color (salmon pink) in the store this year and noticed how incredibly thin they have become - I could see my undershirt through it. They finally cut a big corner on quality and I think I've got enough of the better ones in my closet now.

None of this is specific to budget cashmere retailers. I have several Ralph Lauren Purple Label cashmere sweaters. I also have a Brunello Cucinelli cashmere sweater and I don’t remember any info of where it came from on the product pages. I’ve had those sweaters for about 7-8 years and they still look great, but I’m pretty sure they had no information about the cashmere on the tags or the product pages when I bought them. I have several cashmere blends from other brands that I have had for a while and they have held up well. I actually prefer the cashmere silk blends and think they hold up pretty well.

OK, we've established that budget cashmere is inferior compered to the better grades of cashmere, but how does it fare compared to the finer textured sheep wools, like Merino? For a light, layering sweater, which is the better buy-budget cashmere or a solid, middle-grade Merino?

Thank you for the information. I have dozens of sweaters......all mostly merino wool. After this video, I would not assume to know about the quality of my Merino sweaters, but they are soft and warm. My wife brings me home sweaters from Kiev when she vacations there every year. She buys the from a retailer/factory company. These sweaters are attractive, not heavy, but suprisingly warm. Very nice colors too! For me....better to spend less money on a high quality merino, than "out of my budget" quality cashmere. ......also, after this video......I question if it would be a good idea to buy any cashmere if I came into money?

I can ALWAYS count on Fort Belvedere for true quality. They take pride in being the REAL McCoy... I ordered several cashmere V-necks this year from NADAAM, and Everlane, four in total. They're nice and overall pretty good cashmere sweaters, but I have pilling now on the Navy one, and you can kind of just tell that they are not....top top of the line. I knew it when I looked at the NADAAM catalogue only to see hoodies and sweat suits made out of the same cashmere for relatively low prices. You’re right, but not even Loro Piana gives these details as a matter of routine. Sometimes I’ve seen it from them, but NOT always. The industry does not want the micron measurement to become the norm at the retail level. A wealthy buyer will not buy the cheap stuff anyway, and providing the microns will only deter the budget buyer. Nonetheless, anyone buying the $55 “cashmere” sweater is still buying something at least equal to wool, as far as the material is concerned. Budget cashmere generally isn’t worse than wool (excepting specialty wool like some merino wools or Zegna’s 15 milmil 15.)

I enjoyed most of this video, unil you got to the portion on impact. Like many graded products the difference between high quality cashmere and low quality cashmere is often in the selection process. Just like the walnut bits and pieces are from the same orchards and the beautiful walnut halves the short fibers are often off the same goats as the long fibers, just from a different part of the body. Top end high quality cashmere as a result is just as responsible for the grazing and habitat degradation seen in Mongolia and Western China.
@royalgurung96942 жыл бұрын
Yeah but the point is, you wont need to buy a new cashmere product for a while since genuine high-end cashmere are more durable. You cant stop the environmental impact but you can definitely slow it down.

First time I bought cashmere jumpers was year 2014, from H&M. They were on sale and the price was around 30 Euro each! OMG Can you believe it! Literally for free! Even for me as a poor student. I did not know much about cashmere back then but I could see and feel, the fabric is not good grade fabric. But it does not bother me as being able to even own a cashmere jumper was a big deal. Now with inflation etc sadly the prices are almost never under 100 euro. But I refuse to buy H&M cashmere now, I don't want to pay 150-200 euros for a low grade cashmere :/ I now own a jumper from the brand Davida and man what a differens from the H&M ones I got a decade ago! The H&M ones are course in feel, not as fluffy and they pill a lot etc. Davida one feels like its from an other dimension, much softer, denser, no pilling etc. But yes this brand does not state information about their fibers aswell. I also have a jumper from Falconeri on the way. I think it most probably has same quality as the Davida one and yes they too has no information about fibers. BUT they both for sure are atleast miles better quality in fibers compared with H&Ms cashmere :). I can't afford to pay more than 200 euroes for cashmere jumper so I am happy these brands exist. Except the environment aspect to it:( Thats the fault of our high consumers society:/

Suits, yes. Sweaters, also yes but it is very difficult and time consuming so few tailors will do it. You can learn to on your own though, I would recommend starting with a very cheap sweater, possibly thrifted so that mistakes aren’t costly. The thicker the yarn, the easier it is to work with using knitting needles. If it is very thin and fine, a sewing machine on certain settings can be used, but handsewing is probably better.

are you sure that cashmere is cashmere haha? Are you sure? Because it isn't. I would agree you probably don't get what you pay for, but there CERTAINLY is a difference between short length strand cashmere, and long strand cashmere. The length of the strands are the single most important factor in determining how durable it'll be. You say that you bought it 'lately'. Are you sure that you should form an opinion so quickly? Perhaps wear them every day for a season and let me know how that goes. You will certainly be able to tell a difference between short strand cashmere and long strand, because the short strand one is going to start developing a bunch of holes and pilling. That said, I'm not saying that you get what you pay for. That's why i end up just buying used quality name brands, like Johnston of Elgin, i just scored one for 30 bucks shipped and delivered online two days ago. That is normally a 200-600 dollars sweater. That's going to hold up a LOT better than uniqlo. They unfortunately just can't pay the same prices are johnston can for the long strand, brushed cashmere.
