Hardly any men dress well these days. I watch these vids as they remind me of my Dad! He was meticulously groomed at all times. He was a mechanical engineer and always cleaned his hands thoroughly of any grease or dirt. He had a chair valet that he used every day to put out his clothes at night, ready for the next day. He had a good selection of quality suits, trousers, shirts and sports jackets. He never, ever, went unshaved or sloppy looking his entire life. He's gone now, but we have kept his fabulous and timeless manicure set, and his beautiful cufflinks, scarves, pocket squares and ties. I just can't part with them! He would've loved your channel. :)

I'm a funeral director in New Zealand, one of the few occupations that still require a suit to be worn. How ever, even in the 11 years iv'e been in the industry the dress standard has changed and modernized. I still very much wear a suit everyday but never black (unless it's my "uniform" funeral morning suit" but my day suits are a range of fairly bold patterns and colours, with sharp shirts and paisley or floral ties. I have had many people compliments me on my suits saying it's nice to see a funeral director not looking like a funeral director....one family even said their mother would have loved the floral shirt and tie I was wearing.

I strongly believe in the correct attire in the appropriate place. I worked in finance and wore a suit for my entire career (retired age 47 to follow my interests and manage my investments). Best example of the power of a suit was when I had a two piece navy pinstripe made back in 1996. A superb suit, traditional English, pretty expensive. It was intended for my new job hunt. I made an application for the position of Director of Finance and IT in a major UK Charity in London. My interview took place in the boardroom of Coutts Bank on The Strand. Chairman of the panel was Sir David Money-Coutts, Chairman of the Bank, together with the charity CEO and two Trustees. I'm convinced that suit played a part in my success in gaining the position....my confidence and appearance to the panel just had to be enhanced by it.

It doesn't even have to be a century the 40s 50s and even the early 60s were all way more feminine and lady like than what we have today. Modern women at least 90% of them unfortunantly dress in three ways like total sluts athleisure or like men the feminine lady look is seems to be almost completely gone sadly.

Not red suits or 5 pounds of gold around our necks, but some visual wow factors. I like to be a little Ostentatious a little out of the norm, over the top, out of of the normal! The one in a million, but still pay respect for classic. Not disrespectful, no bad fitting, or color red jacket black-tie no tie sloppy dress. Things people notice and do-not or will never forget.. yet still not so over the top! Opposite to subdued!

Great information! It helped me a lot. Thanks Being a business grad I had to wear a suit. Running my business, shorts and tennis shoes were best. The people I dealt with didn't trust a tie, it's a facade for a crook who hides behind the law. They just knew you were about to rob them somehow. Also, when working in a machine shop, ties are deadly. It is banned apparel, along with long sleeves. Rings, and necklaces are also a no-no. Now I have to get used to the suit again. A few questions though, where do you put your pistol in these suits? I have a 1911 that will match the shoes and tie. Maybe a Miami style cross draw holster in leather? What about the Covid face diaper? Should it match anything, like the pocket square?

0:39 You see this? This right here. This very picture represents the bane of professional dress. It is why we hit a roadblock on fully getting back to appropriation because of what today's typical office worker has done to bring business dress to an immature, adolescent level. They may as well have walked freshly out of a department store change room straight to the office. And I bet you, that if this photo looked down you'd see the lad in the far right with big gaudy tennis shoes on, tongue fully out and unlaced, like something off a rap video.

I have to agree. Asymmetrically-tied ties look sloppy, and appear as though you don't care about your appearance enough to get the knot to lie smoothly. They also tend to expose the buttons on the shirt which, again, looks sloppy.

Have your worked in an office environment? Obviously acceptance of fashion expressions differ between offices and might not have anything to do with the dress code presented here but I would avoid suspenders and vests (unless you are a partner or sr md) otherwise people might start asking you where your pool cue is or where their drinks are. However; vests from Patagonia and alike, as a layer during the colder months are ok. If you are in a front office function then stay far away from brown suits. I would recommend barrel cuffs for shirts instead of French as stated in the video. Make sure the shirt is properly fitted, this is very important. Unless you work in the UK and it’s Friday, stay away from color matching your socks to your tie. Wear a pinky ring and see what that does for your career on your own risk. Unless you are actually part of the nobility in your country and you carry the family crest, then maybe it could work.

Given that those who need tips are probably just starting out their career, please don't show up in a waistcoat, suspenders or a double breasted suit in 2018. Honestly, ditch the pocket square as well. You're going to look like a goober. I'm sorry, but a lot of these outfits would simply look silly in the office. As a young guy in financial services, I can tell you that even the higher ups don't wear those things. Look up any CEO of a major bank, they dress simply and cleanly, and get all the basics right. You're not there to stand out for your outfit. You're there to do BUSINESS, hence the "business attire" name.

@@boscokid9524 My boss wears a suit with no tie. I come into the office everyday in the full dark grey or dark blue suit and silk tie, with understated cufflinks and tie pin. Interestingly enough, the only other "dapperologist" I've seen in the company is the guy whose job I'm taking over.
