Zahinn I think OP recognizes that the GG loafers are not priced perfectly proportionally, but they’re still significantly more proportionally priced when compared some other items from Gucci, like say, their sneakers. I tend to agree with him.
@neilsoulman5 жыл бұрын
agree, the Gucci loafers are of superb styling, material and workmanship, of course there is going to be a slight mark up just for the brand, but I feel they are comparable to the competitors on the mkt, SF, thom Browne (red bottoms) , , Louboutin, Burberry etc. Nevertheless can't say the same for the Gucci canvas sneakers, other then they match up well if you happen to have the matching jogger, imho, a good Belvedere, Mauri exotic, Bellaziglia sock, or even a limited ed. Jordan/ Nike are preferable as a stylish, quality athletic shoe.

Really enjoyed this! As you say, it depends if it’s worth it. To give you my example, I live in a former communist Eastern European country, in which people had no time to develop their tastes yet. If you want to do big business here one important aspect is that you need to be perceived as successful and doing so you will have a much better chance of securing deals. So certain status symbols are a must. No logos, but instantly recognisable expensive stuff. So yeah, they are worth it because in the end they may make you a lot more money. On intrinsic value alone, no.

Great video! So interesting to learn about the history of this particular shoe. There's one aspect that may make it a little more worth its price, and that's comfort. I taught languages for several years, standing for many hours at a time, which made my feet hurt at the end of the day, EXCEPT for the days on which I wore my Gucci loafers. They gave me great support and seemed to soften the ground, almost like walking on air.

Have two, one recent penny loafer in a more casual styled, very well made and comfortable, obviously high quality, and another older horseblit, not the '1953' edition, but similar and older with goodyear welt instead of blake and leather lined. This horsebit one is one of my most uncomfortable shoe, and the leather is now cracking, something is just not right. It was maintained with saphir products and taken care of. Keeping it to remember an old friend who passed.

They are the Rolex Datejust of shoes. There are better watches out there that have more watch snob creds, but the masses still buy them just because it is what it is. My dad wore them, I have them, and my son has a pair (in brown.) I agree they don't work work with a suit, but it works with chinos and jeans (especially in suede which were available on the past.) But personally the JM Weston moc get more wear from me, and they do work well in black even for casual situations.
@FatSamEIE6 жыл бұрын
Joshua Lee good comparison-and like the datejust they are tried and tested, reliable, go with pretty much anything and easily recognisable. Along with being a bit over priced but not enough to be silly overpriced. (Like a hublot with an eta movement or a pair of Loboutin sneakers for £600/$750+)

I think one way to expand the content of the channel is to look into how a young individual can transition from a street aesthetic to a more dapper look. And while youre on that, i think a series on high end fashion brands (e.g. your gucci loafers review). I think it allows the channel to also educate a gentleman about high end fashion brand. I am personally tired to high end fashion being almost always conflated with "high street" and streetwear. Its unflattering, not classic and simply trendy.

If you have money and want quality, exclusivity and enjoy the buying experience at certain stores or boutiques then why not? Going into Brioni by appointment to buy a cashmere overcoat would be a far more pleasurable experience than buying similar coat for a tenth of the price at a high st chain. If I have millions in the bank why would I not spend thousands custom Berlutti or John Lobb shoes over €500 equivalents (I don’t have millions in the bank but if I did I would shop like Brewsters Millions 😃)
@FatSamEIE6 жыл бұрын
Iphone X I’m in the uk so Church’s we’re always one of the best but have been bought out by a big Japanese company I think. I’m sure the shoes are still excellent but the brand seems different now. Berluti make beautiful shoes but again maybe style over substance. John Lobb, Barker, Crockett & Jones and Joseph Cheaney all make good English shoes and there are lots of hand made shoes available from smaller brands that are affordable(£100-250) but top quality. I tend to prefer English shoes to Fashion houses but some of them have nice shoes too (I have Ferragamo loafers and Lanvin & Louis Vuitton oxfords) But there is no doubt you are paying for the name and would get a similar shoe for half or even a third of the price elsewhere. For good quality and more reasonably priced shoes I would say Loake are good too. They are priced between £100-250 and you can often pick them up cheaper if you shop about. My knowledge of foreign(to me- I’m English) brands is less extensive but I do love Italian shoes and am sure every country has its own great cobblers/shoemakers 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
