My father has been in the shoes industry for over 30 years now, and out of being surrounded by superb footwear for a majority of my life, I can confidently say Crockett and Jones, Church’s, Salvatore Ferragamo, and even Magnanis make fabulous, qualitatively brilliant foot wear ! Gucci and LV both, while still being very highly respected brands are somehow falling short on durability . I know it’s not the first thing you look at when you spend 700-1000$s on shoes, but you still want them to be durable . They’re no longer the company’s of the past. Their leather isn’t the same. Their QC isn’t the same . You can physically feel a difference in quality over the past 10-15 years i’d say. Yes I’d buy a pair, but knowing fully well they won’t last me as long as any of my others 😃
@ordoabchao42023 жыл бұрын
Love Crockett & Jones. Their 'Harvard' penny loafer in shell cordovan is a great alternative to the Gucci horsebit. But it is true, English shoes just look and feel more dressy, while you could pull off Gucci loafers in shorts and without socks. Church's quality has gone downhill massively since they got bought out by Prada around the 2000s...

$920 now in Nov. 2023 --- I will pick up a pair for Christmas. I remember seeing the ads in my Mom's T&C magazine and wanting them back in the '80s. And here I am, going to get them (black with gold horsebit) many decades later. Wearing my Cartier Santos while watching your fine video - thank you. I also love that they share the same birthyear as my beloved Rolex Submariner (I have the Starbucks).

I own 2 pairs of 1953 horse bit penny loafers and let me tell you they arent that comfortable, they feel like walking in wooden planks, very expensive and yatch like wooden planks but still there are shoes more comfortable out there for a better price, that being said these shoes were a hand me down and they are about 10 years old and I still rock them with no signs of giving up. Love em

Bravo to the great video 👏🏽. A lot of people hating on the brand and not quite sure why. I’m a shoe collector but my true passion is GUCCI. What’s summer without a great horsebit loafer! Whether in a driver or in the 1953 line, it’s money well spent. Personally, I own over 30 pairs of just the horsebits. Over 100+ in all GUCCI shoes and I’ve never regretted it. More vids please!

Great video Christian. I have a few pairs and like mine. These dress up like no other and, if you ever need to, will command a decent preowned price if you sell them on eBay. I bought and resold a pair of LV loafers a few years ago and actually made money. Anyone who goes down the “there’s better quality” road forgets to consider resale and the intangible feeling of owning an icon.
@marcogonzalez46156 жыл бұрын
TheDutchSandwich not just that, but these will last a life time with proper care. In my mind, these are an investment, no different than a watch. Right when I got my first pair, I could see the huge difference in leather from other brands. Bottom line, if you can’t take care of your shoes you shouldn’t buy these. They will last a very long time.
@natevonhartleben27376 жыл бұрын
Gucci loafers are a massive waste of money, the quality of the calfskin alone makes it not worth the price. That being said, the horsebit loafer is imo the greatest contribution to fashion gucci has ever made, and even though they did it first, I have to say that many companies now, make a much more elegant, higher quality horsebit loafer than gucci nowadays.

The reason those shoes are lined with linen/cotton is because it is cheaper to make them that way. Once upon a time, they were made with a leather lining. RE: Blake stitching, if quality was a concern they would at least be Blake/Rapid construction instead. They may have been a quality product at one time, but are basically a fashion/hype product nowadays. For the same money I would buy something else. As an aside, your loafers are in need of some conditioning and cream polish.

Hi Chris, in my opinion Carmina isn't that comfortable as Gucci 1953. I just got my 1953 model horsebit loafer, it is very comfortable, same level as my VASS oxford :), and if you want to buy a pair of horsebit loafer, Gucci seems like the only choice since it is original. Before finishing the purchase, I can't decide whether I should go for a pair of Baudoin&Lange or a Gucci 1953, but since Baudoin&Lange is glued and Gucci is using a refined version of Blake Stich, I choose the Gucci and never regret for the decesion. I hope you can do some reviews on Baudoin&Lange sagan loafer in the future, maybe compare it with Gucci? Cheers!

Normally I agree with your opinion Christian but here I have to disagree. While history is alluring and all, history in fashion brands is the least of my concern simply because they've to serve a purpose. In terms of quality yes, it's good but no where near Allen Edmonds And I'll argue with you all day long how Allen Edmonds and some other brands have a better history than Gucci. The price just doesn't match the quality of the shoes. Even my Johnston Murphy (another American brand with rich history) Are similar quality if not better and are wayyyy more affordable than whatever piece of fashion hype Gucci is selling me.
@TheoandHarris6 жыл бұрын
Aviral bajaj hey man!! Thanks for watching!! Great points! AE defintiely has better shoes all around than Gucci. Their park ave is a great example of that. And I agree that Gucci prices would be much fairer in the AE ballpark. But while AE’s history is on par with Gucci, it’s no where near as sexy. Not even close. And sexiness is value. As far as JM - sorry, couldn’t disagree more.

@marcogonzalez46156 жыл бұрын
The quality of J&M is not comparable to these loafers. Allen Edmonds is by far closer, but, again, if you have a pair of these in hand you know the immediate difference. These are intended to last for a life time, quite a bargain if you ask me. Simply resole and proper shoe care.
@stritlit6 жыл бұрын
M A My Allen Edmonds have lasted me more than 7 years and even my Johnston Murphys last me upwards of 5 years. I'm sorry but I don't see the value in utterly tacky, gaudy and overpriced Gucci loafers. You can find a pair of Allen Edmonds for around 200USD on sale. At that price point, Allen Edmonds shits on Gucci all day long. Even Santoni shits on Gucci. I follow a lot of fashion KZbinrs and absolutely none of them recommend Gucci shoes.

@brentcrude81536 жыл бұрын
Your response wreaks of a defeatist mindset. The reason why you have a quality watch and Sperry (and not Gucci) is because you are not rich. Rich is not just money it's an ethos. And it is a prerequisite of this ethos of the rich, not to acquire a quality watch OR Gucci Loafers, but to generate a means to obtain both.
@GLASS-DOOR-GARAGE6 жыл бұрын
Brent Crude As a grade 10 student trying to save for University and pay for my sports, I can't spend large sums of money on assets prone to depreciation or with low rates of return. A watch is something you can have great financial security in- as long as proper research is done- while allowing you to enjoy the asset as it appreciates or sits. Currently I am applying the same mentality to buying a first car, looking for classic value markets and cost-effective, owner- repairable vehicles. Gucci loafers are worth every penny in theory, however within a few years they will start to deteriorate and devalue with repeated use (as any shoe would) and therefore are not feasible in the long term. I have spent large sums of money (for a 15 year old) on clothing such as dress shoes and suits as I see value in something that will last many years due to proper treatment. I can beat on my Sperrys, wear them everyday, rain or shine, in the snow and mud and not have to worry about devaluing or ruining a large asset. I'm sure Gucci's shoes would also stand up to this abuse just fine but as I said, for now, their cost is too great for my use-case and therefore possible risk for the item. I can buy new Sperrys every year in my current financial situation but couldn't say the same for the watches I currently own. There will be a day where I can afford to spend $1000s of dollars on beater shoes, but at that point I'll most likely be saving for my first Patek or something along those lines.
@marsbanditnyc90436 жыл бұрын
Michael Schubert I gotta say I’m impressed & agree with every point! You’ll achieve great success & the means to buy any luxury item sooner than you think if you continue with that mindset & philosophy, good luck to you on your journey !

Not for me, but yeah can appreciate quality in all areas. but to say there are better, and certainly better value for money out there. I think just shows the market for many products is all about brand recognition! Like a 60/70's Datejust is priced at twice the price of a similar Omega or Longines, which by all accounts are better watches. When is fashion, and neigh I saw wanting recognition, over genuinely quality is a good thing? It is for those who recognise quality, I'll concede on that! ;) And why is this different to the fashion watches that every watch geek slags, any different to a lesser quality shoe at the same price?
