Gabor Maté introduces his SAND workshop with a talk about his approach to self-knowledge, which he calls Compassionate Inquiry. He reminds us of the pitfalls of practices which can lead to spiritual bypassing, describing his work as an archaeology of the mind, a gentle dusting off to discover the treasure within.

Narcissists love using Triggers, learn them and show no affect it drives them crazy. Us normal-ish nice people learn Triggers and avoid pulling them because we don't wish to harm the other person. My father knew all my Triggers and I knew his but he pulled mine as he was a Narcissist, I learnt to not react and never pull his. I could of given him a heart attack if I pulled most or all of his, I came close but he was an unwell Narcissist, it is an illness. He died 23 years ago and still managed to ruin my Mum's and my life however this why I'm here recovering. Gabor Thank You So Much

I will be celebrating the day when medical community finally recognizes the truth that this man is presenting. I will be celebrating the day when society in general finally understands the importance of emotions and how they affect everything in our lives. Also, in true spirituality there is no separation between the emotional, physical and spiritual. It is a misconception that one can be enlightened without addressing their emotions. Spirit is what manifests itself into emotional, mental and physical aspects. There is no spirituality without adressing all of those aspects.

Gabor is so insightful and much needed today. He appears full of compassion and understanding for humanity. It's sad that the people who probably have the highest ACEs are the ones that are judged the most harshly by society and sometimes by their family, when they are the ones that need the most compassion. What Gabor's done for me is to make me change my self-talk from 'it's not fair! or 'why me?, or 'why are they doing this to me?' 'why were they so cruel to me' TO 'there's nothing wrong with me' 'I am not bad' 'I will no longer allow anyone to make me feel bad'. 'I will now do things that enable me to be the best I can and achieve my potential'. The triggers primarily from my family of origin- are guilt and shame.

Good point, however, capitalism per se, isn't really problematic, it is that it is practiced irresponsibly---as an example, one could argue that marriage is useless because most people are bad at it---where I would aver that marriage is essential and people just need to get better at being married@Greg Jacques Lucifer's Jizz Gargler

@jobje Rabbeljee everybody has childhood trauma- it is prerequisite. Problem is to admit that we were traumatized, even damaged, but still able to work it out. It is not relevant how much time it will take, but if you go for this journey and relentlessly work on that, you find yourself being different , much happier and being able to take care about yourself and even more. I came through that and found that it worth every penny and every second which you spent during this journey. You will become self reliable in any possible way. Took 25 years.

@happyapples6363
@happyapples6363 4 жыл бұрын
@@zabelicious So essentially you're saying you're anti-vax without actually saying it, and attempting to spread fear of vaccines by positioning yourself as "pro-safety." The whole anti-vax movement originated through Russian disinformation and psy-ops campaigns. They are working to undermine democracy in the western world by spreading fear and distrust of the government (among other things). Since vaccines come from government programs, it's (sadly) been quite an effective technique. Do you have credible sources that show that neurotoxins have been added to vaccines and people who received the vaccines were harmed as a result? Because that would be worldwide news, were a tragedy like that to strike. Maybe put your energy into something that will actually help people instead of spreading unfounded fear about the safety of vaccines.

Gabor is a GIANT of a superhero - bearing his own suffering WHILE carrying others and helping others, just an easy naturalness of accepting his own wounds while teaching other people about how this works. Many people choose to create more pain instead of heal it when they''re experiencing / can't find a way out at the moment. But the healing and world good is achieved through the experience, not avoiding it.

' So, Compassionate Inquiry is really all about finding out what the 'ammunition' is. How you handle the person that triggers you really is your call. But at least know that you are the one with all the explosive inside you, and you will gain so much liberation if you find out what that ammunition is; how you got it and how to diffuse it, like you diffuse a bomb. You can actually diffuse that ammunition inside you, through getting to know yourself, and that's where freedom lies. If no-one had the power to actually trigger you, not because you are closed down and shut down and isolated, but because you are totally aware of yourself....Well, that's where liberation actually is ' Gabor Maté From the deepest depths of my soul, thank you Gabor Maté

All you need is already within you, only you must approach your self with reverence and love. Self-condemnation and self-disgust are grievous errors. Your constant flight from pain and search for pleasure is a sign of love you bear for your self, all I plead with you is this: make love of your self perfect. Deny your self nothing--give yourself infinity and eternity and discover that you do not need them; you are beyond. Nisargadatta Maharaj, I Am That: Talks with Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

The stories to manage the pain are actually the gift making you realize.right in the moment that while some of your awareness is caught in a leg trap, plenty of it is free as to be aware that part of your mind is trying to get out of the trap with a mix.of feelings, story, images etc. To even be aware that a part of you is caught in that leg trap it means that some of your awareness is free. Now allow this living light to witness your struggle and do now ask it to intervene to change anything. Give it a chance to pop in your life and see you in less that stellar circumstances. This awareness does give a shit whether you have a gold medal to your neck or a noose because you will get hung in 10 minutes. Don't try to noss awareness around. It is like trying to chop the wind with a machete. It won't make you a millionnaire either or fire a shot of kundalini from your ass past the top of your head. However what it can do is to pull the rest of your awareness out of the trap just like if the leg that was in the trap was made of ice... then it turns to water and escapes the trap. The trap os still there and still shut but the metamorphosis from ice to water got you out. One very beautiful book that explains things in a very poetic and simple ways is The Sun In My Heart by Thich Nhat Hanh. While this monk is a lot let fierce with his words than Krishnamurti they extremely close in their views in many aspect. It is so easy to miss Thich Nhat Hanh as never tries to shock the way Osho and others did. However he can see a lot in a drop of water sliding on a blade.of grass. A very, very subtle master.

the curious thing about integration of light and dark in general is the mind's tendency to cling and identify with the whole process which ultimately creates a complex patterning of the structure of the system to such identification. This becomes another form of addiction and when there is no more highs and lows brought about by the process, the mind craves and creates for more "dark" unwittingly because what else is there to do when you dedicate all your time and energy for such integration? This is a perpetual loop one finds in. It's like rocking your own boat with your own energy without any waves on the ocean.

I think one can understand "spiritual bypass" and also the achievement of positive mental and emotional states that Maté mention without addressing and changing one's underlying beliefs as a function of the nature of human beings and human action. Our relation to the "divine" and our moment to moment thoughts and our emotions are related to our beliefs about ourself, but are not determined by them. I can change my relation to the universe without changing my relation to and my beliefs about myself because these are different aspects of mind. Beliefs about self operate differently than thoughts and feelings and even our spritual beliefs. They are more fundamental, established earlier and reinforced more thoroughly. To change such beliefs is a different kind of task, one that can take immense effort and skill.

People who have and "try" to cultivate spiritual practices without dealing with the "dark material" on a deep meaningful level generally exhibit passive-aggressive behavior in everyday life. I for one, tire of this need to "be in the light"... The truth is in the dark stinky material.

The problematic self will never be resolved. Decades of learning how to manage trauma, our minds and our body might entertain the idea that we are, indeed, victims that can be triggered at any time. I wonder if all this is not 'only' a question of mistaken identity, when we confuse who we are (pure awareness) with the separate self, the 'little me' and its painful story, which is a crystallised, contracted version of awareness. I agree with Gabor, working on our beliefs, on the stories we tell ourselves is the way out.

I think there are stages and all of them are natural and necessary. A trigger IS a transgression and intuitively we feel agreviated and is emotionally healthy to respond by boundaries, removing our selves....protect our selves. If we may attend our feelings at this time proppertly ( witch depend of the intensity IS definitely therapy , for the most part society is NOT psychological conscious/ intelligent) this may not become a trigger later on. But if it is is simply a wise way our body and mind tell us there is something that needs our loving attention. Simply. Is out of self love and trust of our body intelligence that something came up.

Im lucky at such a young age i choose not to define or blame or shame my self with my parents incompetency. I choose to separate my identity with my parents poor decissions n judgements. I tell my self im going to separate my self n destiny, and have better life, reactions to life, and better communications with my own family. I make peace with ' the ghosts inside me'. I forgive them, but refuse to take their path. May Allah bless my parents.
