I use the wake up feature but I still have 1 question. It seems the default wake up color is Warm White. Is there anyway to change the wake up light color? I prefer the color Cool White when my lights are on. So with the wake up color being Warm white, I then have to change the color back to Cool White.

Considering the brightness of these lights at highest intensity, could I install them in my existing night stand lamps (that have lamp shades) and still be bright enough to wake me? Also, would you agree using with google mini isn't a problem?

I totally think they're bright enough, as I use them myself. At 100%, most Philips Hue lights are pretty bright...at least to me. I also fully agree using the Google Home Mini or Nest Mini is not a problem at all. :)

Great video Brian, This is what I like about your tutorials. Straight to the point and very informative. So one question. I have Philips Hue hub connected to my Smartthings hub and that Smartthings are in turn connected to Google Home. For this to work i think I need to connect Philips Hue directly to my Google home, because I cant find my recently made Philips Hue "Wake up 1" in Smartthings. This will, I'm sure, end up with me having multiple instances of Philips Hue lights in my Google Home, right? How I am to handle this, should I in Smartthings make sure not to share Philips Hue lights between Smartthings and Google Home? Or should I just let there be multiple Philips Hue lights and just group the extra lights in a temp room? It seems a little cumbersome just to be able to have the Philips Hue "Wake up 1" in Google Home. How have you set up your connections between , Smartthings hub, Philips Hue hub and Google home? Again, great video and thanx !

Hey Peter! Fancy meeting you here.... So a couple things...Yes, you'd need a direct connection (although, there is a feature directly in SmartThings that would allow you to gently wake up your lights as well) from Philips to Google Home. Once you do that, you'll end up with multiples of the same device coming to Google Home's interface, and then things get messy quickly. So what I do (because we have the exact same hubs, FYI) is I manage the SmartThings connection to Google Home. With that hub, you get the choice of which devices come across when you go into the settings for Google Home. That allows me to pull out the Philips Hue lights, and keep them synchronizing strictly through the Hue Hub. This also has the additional benefit of removing a point of failure from my scheme when interacting with Google Home (no more SmartThings required for wake up/sleep). I think I should do a video, hey? You're not the only person to talk to me about this, this week.

@@AutomateYourLife Great, Yeah I figured I had to manage the connections in Smartthings to Google home and in Smartthings exclude the Philips Hue lights not to reach Google Home and in Google Home connect Philips Hue directly to Google Home. I will do that and tidy up and as you said, It will be better with a direct connection between Philips Hue and Google Home. I get what you are saying but a video will never hurt to describe the preferred way of connect theses three main components (Google Home, Smartthings and Philips Hue). Bluetooth doesn't matter at all. You need the Hue Hub and that uses Zigbee

Hi Brian! I need some guidance to determine which is the most adequate smart lightning system for me. I'm looking for white bulbs that can be dimmed and adjusted between bright and warm white (do not need the bulbs with a variety of colors, just white) and the system shall be compatible with Smartthing. I think the Philips Hue is a good option but I'm wondering if there is any other system similar and that may be cheaper. Any thoughts?

Hi sblacka - I'm going to answer like you asked for temperature controlled white, but if you didn't...just go buy the Sengled A19 ZigBee bulbs on Amazon here. They're only one temperature, but dimmable and so cheap - amzn.to/2NRMP4J You could definitely go Hue, but I love the Sengled Bulbs for being inexpensive and also for giving you direct integration into SmartThings. Hue does too, but then you've got two hubs in your home with SmartThings, Hue, and then likely a voice controller. You could definitely do hue, but it's about $17 - $20 USD/bulb after the hub. Instead...look at these Sengled with color: US - amzn.to/2NWrmaT - $25 US apiece It's just a cheaper way of direct integration if you don't need a ton of bulbs. Also, you can then use color to indicate situations in your smart home. Just a thought. :)

Hey! thank you for your videos , realy helped me many times! Do you know if i can set the warmness of a light depending the time of the day? Like for example every time i turn on a light before sunset, would be always set as white colour and after sunset as orange (warm) colour. Thank you in advance.

I think you'll want to use HomeKit for that actually. There's a feature there called Adaptive Lighting there :)

I use the wake up routine built in in the hue app, Starts increasing the lights brightness for 30 mins .. What I wish for is the same cycle for sleeping, but triggered by an alexa command for example .. saying for example "Alexa, I'm going to sleep" and the lights starts to dim till 0% in 10mins or something .. I don't think that's possible right now .. Let's see if this video solves that :D

I love Google phones and speakers but gave up on Google Philip lights and Kasa plugs when they kept stop working and they are ridiculously hard to reset to get working again. I have 6 expensive dumb LED bulbs now.

Paul, your Hue lights shouldn't have issues. Ever. Honestly, most people experience that product as completely seamless. If you're having issues, they are likely network OR interference. We can help with some of our videos if you want to get back to a smart home. That's what we do here...get it working! Hi Siddharth - You can set the power on condition to multiple different scenarios within the Philips Hue application. You could set it to "last state", "full on", or "full off", as well as any state you'd like that the bulb can reproduce. So short answer: anything.

Sorry actually I was wrong. You’ll get to choose 1 of 3 things: full brightness, last powered on state, or a custom choice. The lowest you can set is 1%

hi! I just got my first lights and I am completely lost. If i set ask google to torn my light in the mornin it will do it, if i create a rutine with light it will do it, but when i activate gentle wake up... nothing happen. Any ideas? Thank you

Gentle wake up can be set by room or by device, then you just set an alarm on a good home device in the same room as those lights and it should all work!

I don't like the wake up as it changes the colour from orange to white should give use the option of 1 colour. So I Much prefer other routines where you can setup up wake-up in 1 colour over set minutes.

I've found a Hue Labs feature called Personal go to sleep, that dims lights over a chosen period of time to either complete darkness or the nightlight setting. However, the nightlight setting on these bulbs is far too bright for us!

Yeahhhh it could be too bright. Some light bulbs follow a linear curve for 1-100%. These are not so 1% feels more like 15-20%

I live in an apartment, we aren't aloud to mess any light fixture that was installed when we moved in. More then 90% of my lights are smart lights installing them did not require an electrician, they were all direct replacements to the old dumb bulbs.
