That was "totally awesome"! I can still close my eyes and feel the thwap of that dodge ball bouncing off my head, and the smell of chlorine as my glasses are pushed into the bridge of my nose...memories sigh. I was telling my niece not long ago about the "pain" game my brother and I would play. How we would hit each other in the arm until one of us said "uncle". We never got mad at each other it was just for fun. Even now, we give a punch in the arm every time we see each other, of course its done more lightly now that we both have arthritis. :) My millennial niece looked at me in pure bewilderment and said "why would you do that, wouldn't you get in trouble?" haha. :)

I'd have taught you to be with me, on the retriever squad... I throw like a girl. But I catch like it's my job. So I'd give the ball to a thrower. They never had to take their eyes off the action. And they always had ammo. (Takes three retrievers for one thrower, ime. One to get the ball from the back of the pitch. One to run that ball to the hander. The hander to the thrower. So thrower and hander can guard the two other retrievers). I was last picked for everything Except dodgeball. 😂

@@cjpietropinto9293unfortunately back in my elementary school in the ‘80s, we were split into two teams. The one formed a square around the other team (we were enclosed in the square) Then the square just wailed the balls (mostly the boys) on the people on the inside until everyone was out. The last one standing was the first to throw the ball as we changed from inside the square to forming the square. I hid in the corner scared to death. My gym teacher always looked at me with such pity and disappointment when I was the last one. Basically as a coward I didn’t probably deserve to throw the first ball out. I’d have to agree. If I would have had a protector, then maybe I would have felt better about this whole situation! 😂❤️‍🩹 P.S. I was never picked first for anything in gym!

I was pulled out of gym for that game. I never learned how to throw a ball. Can personally thank mom for that. Parents excuse? Money was tight as hell and if any of us got hurt we couldn't afford the hospital bills. Should have seen moms reaction when a few of my teeth got knocked out playing Red Rover.
