Why? Why is there always someone saying that, that has nothing to do with their musical talent, in every reaction? Such an insistence! More energy than Prince in his 20s! But above all, such impressive originality commenting...

Prince was not like Michael Jackson except that they were both famous during the same time. Prince played 20+ instruments, wrote all his own songs, produced them himself & on a bunch of his earlier albums played every instrument on every song. He was the youngest producer on his label at the time, at 19 yrs old. He also wrote huge hits for other famous artists, created multiple other bands and wrote almost all their music just as an outlet for his different sounds, played all types of genres, had and incredible voice, could dance his ass off & didn't imitate Michael Jackson whatsoever. He took inspiration from Jimi Hendrix, James Brown, Sly and the Family Stone etc. Idolized Chaka Khan and Joni Mitchell etc. He was a singular artist.

My Gen Z daughter bought a Prince tshirt because it looked cool. I told her, before you wear that you better familiarize yourself with his music cuz you know some teacher is gonna ask what your favorite Prince song is. She ended up LOVING it! A few months later, after her homecoming dance, she came home complaining they didn’t play any good music to dance to. She said, “Someone needs to introduce that DJ to Prince.”

The thing about THESE songs is that this is EARLY Prince. And that's his local--white Minneapolis club--audience, sitting there, marveling at him directing his band (The Revolution) live. You need to find some post Purple Rain work, really. MJ sold more records, but pretty much everybody ever saw them live would testify Prince is by far the musician.

Hey y'all, old man here who was a 15 year old kid at this concert. Glad to see you enjoying it so much. Keep in mind this whole segment was his first encore after already doing a killer 90 minute show. I was in about the tenth row on the floor and we were all standing on our chairs groovin. 50k people. It was quite the event. But let me tell you, this is even the tip of the iceberg, Prince left behind a whole universe of music. Literally a couple thousand great songs. Wait till you hear him play the guitar....or the piano....or the bass....or the drums...or ....😊

And the icing on the cake was being in the nosebleed section like I was, and having him come from behind you to smile at you, just a hand space away. He loved connecting with his audience and wanted to make sure EVERYONE enjoyed the show. I never had an artist come up close to those of us in the nosebleed section. @@mlb235nyc it's funny you mentioned that, I remember seeing him do that from the front. His stage set at that time was designed with staircases on either side that led to platforms in the front on either side but also to a raised walkway above and behind the drums that he kept going up to, so he could interact with the people that were sitting behind the stage. That was a new thing back then that they only started doing for the really big artist that would sell like 48 thousand tickets in on hour, that is, selling the seats behind the stage, people knew they would be not the best seats but didn't care, just as long as they could go. I don't remember the exact details for the Prince concert as far as how long it took to sell out but it wasn't more than a couple of hours, so they added the seats behind the stage for the show in my hometown (Syracuse NY). I seem to remember that they sometimes didn't decide to add those seats til after the fact. I'm pretty sure it was like that for Prince. Back during the Purple Rain days, there weren't a whole ton of acts that could sell out the big football stadiums, most groups would play at your local wall memorial, or whatever, the 10-15k hockey stadiums, in the early 80s at the gigantic place (Carrier Dome in Syracuse) it was the Stones, the Who, Genesis, Prince, the Grateful Dead, the Police, Bruce Springsteen, and later U2 and Pink Floyd that I remember as the only shows big enough to play at the Dome.

@enricaalbaro1490
@enricaalbaro1490 2 ай бұрын
Actually he was a more talented than mozart. Mozart is only given credit for playing roughly 5 to 7 instruments. Prince played 27 + instruments. He might not be the greatest guitarists of all time are the greatest singer of all time but no one can deny that he is the greatest musician that ever was. Period. It is said that if he released a new album every month it would still take more than 20 years to release all the music in his vault that he himself wrote. He didn't just write for himself he wrote for a ton of other artists in many genres but his favorite thing to do was to write for the ladies.
@darrencarter9812
@darrencarter9812 2 ай бұрын
@@enricaalbaro1490 I Love Prince and recognize that he was incredibly talented, but comparing him to Mozart and saying he was more talented is kind of silly. Mozart was composing music when he was 5 years old and completed his first symphony at age 8. He didn't write arrangements for a 4 piece band, he wrote concertos, operas, and symphony arrangements. He died at 35 and his music is being played and celebrated over 200 years after his death. He is simply one of the greatest and most influential classical composers of all time - defininately top 3 alongside Bach and Beethoven. Prince was a pop star with a lot of talent. Mozart wrote "The Marriage of FIgaro" and "The Magic Flute." Prince wrote "Darling Nicky" and "Purple Rain." Comparing the two in terms of talent is lunacy.

@@darrencarter9812 Though I am silly at times I don't think that this is one of them. Prince wrote way more than just pop songs and way more than just for himself. He wrote many many songs for different artists, to include Kenny Rogers. It's estimated that if all of the music from his vault was released at the rate of several albums a year, it would still take decades to exhaust the vault! It is true that Prince was not a child prodigy; he was however a teen prodigy (completely self-taught). He got his first record contract at like 16 or 17. Now there hasn't been a couple of centuries so I can't say how influential and appreciated his music will be a few centuries in the future. But I think if humans still walk the Earth or the space station then it very well might be the case. My comment wasn't made to minimize Mozart's achievements. It was made to illustrate how diverse, talented, and lesser known Prince talents are.

I had just lost my Moms in Dec 2015, still raw & hurting & upon leaving work, one of my sisters texted me about MW’s passing. I just laid my head on the dashboard & sobbed my heart out, it was that devastating for me. For SO many of us, music is our life line, our world. I promise you’ve heard a Prince song. He was a prolific songwriter and often sold songs to people who he thought were talents. His shows were energetic and full of all kinds of different styles and instruments. He sang, danced, played piano, and could shred a guitar. He changed the way people expected to get in a concert and unlike most men he hired many talented women musicians which I always respected. He as our 20th century American Motzart. Keep checking out his music. He was talented and unique. Born to be a musician. Best football halftime show ever.

Gen-X here… welcome 2 the Prince Experience. He played all the instruments (Guitar, Bass, Keys, Drums, Sax, etc) on his debut album and over his prolific career wrote and performed rock, funk, jazz, hip hop, and so many genres that you could spend a month reacting to his tracks and not even scratch the surface. He performed the greatest superbowl halftime show ever (in the rain), and many guitarists didn’t realize how good he was until his Rock and Roll hall of fame performance. If you watch the live performance from Sign O The Times (Beautiful Night) when Sheila E gets up from the drums to perform a rap, he takes over on drums. Even years after his passing we are still uncovering his genius as he left THOUSANDS of unreleased tracks in his vault. ☮️❤️🎶

Prince was a few months older than I am. His father was a musical genius. With such DNA, Prince naturally gravitated towards music. Sadly, his home life wasn't great. Music became his escape. Music set his mind and heart free to simply be "Prince," with no labels or restrictions. We grew up with original musical geniuses like B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Little Richard, James Brown, Little Richard and Stevie Wonder. The path of extraordinary Black musicians had already been laid. Prince, combined all of their styles then brought to the world a 28 instrument playing musical maestro who could also write, compose, produce, dance, sing and entertain on an extraordinary virtuoso-level. No one will ever come close to exhibiting the God-given talents of Prince. Rest in peace, Mr. Nelson. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 You are beloved and missed. 💜💜💜💜
