Rescues are way too picky. They complain that their animals aren't being adopted, but they turn down most applicants. I applied to adopt a senior cat and two dogs and all three times I was turned down. One didn't give a reason, one said no because I was renting, and one said no because I said I wouldn't feed him blue buffalo food 🙄 I will never try to go through a rescue agency again.

It may have just been a numbers game. It may be different with dogs, as my experience is with cats. Even though I read we are making progress, there are still just SO MANY unwanted cats looking for a home. Spay and neuter every chance you get!

The problem is many people say online that they will adopt this cat or that cat or this dog or that dog and yet it is another person who actually does the adopting. Just saying because words are cheap. And yes, I have rescued cats on the streets and am still feeding some stray cats that I cannot adopt due to having too many pets already--7 dogs and 4 cats (after some cats passed away). So what I do when I have the budget is to spay/neuter some of those strays on our street.

Eight years isn't remotely too old for a cat. Most of my cats lived to between 13-14. This cat seems like a really sweet cat, and one I would adopt.

Oh no I’m now hearing this is the average age span. I thought I lost my boys too soon at age 15 and 16. When I first got my cats I assumed they’d live to 18-20 years. It’s been two years since the last one passed away and I’m still not over it. 😢

Her true personality very likely wasn’t coming through when she was at the shelter. She was under stress, apparently bullied by the other cats. Shelters must feel like being in jail for lots of animals.

this is so true. AND I hope this lovely woman realizes that all she has to do is separate them for a while (put Chou in a bathroom, perhaps?) with a comfy little bed, litter and food tray...so they can get to know each other under the door. Tequila WILL undoubtedly be curious about her meows and talking - but above all, she'll slowly become used to her scent, so when Chou finally comes out they'll bond fairly quickly. It occasionally took me a couple of months of 'separation' to achieve this with a new cat but it ALWAYS works.

Who would not want this beautiful, sweet cat? they mentioned that she was older, in the video, not sure how old. I adopted a 17 year old cat, it was the best thing I ever did....she lived four more years and once I got her back on her feet from sitting in a shelter for six months, she had four years of great health and happiness, before she got sick at the end...I lost her at age 21. RIP, I love you, Deja. We miss you so much.

it could take a year or more but eventually they will at least be able to live in the same house and walk past each other. but you have to supervise and chastise the aggressor until it knows not to act out. there will still be occasional squabbles, but not fights where you have to break them up. never use your hand to break up a cat fight you will be horribly bitten. keep a broom handy and interrupt the fight as quick as you can to avoid as much damage to the cats as possible.

It's not like Chou is attacking or bullying or endangering Tequila in any way. She is in fact respecting tequila's boundaries. So depriving Chou of a home, rejecting her and returning her to the shelter where she was being bullied, is incredibly unkind and cold-hearted. Chou deserves a home and happiness too, and if we mollycoddled every child or pet that initially wasn't thrilled about a sibling, 90% of children and pets would be an only child.

Nope. That's a Snowshoe. She's a mix of Siamese and probably an ordinary domestic shorthair. They have similar markings to Ragdolls, but they usually have darker points and are shorthaired.

She is a snowshoe. I had one for 19 years. He was almost dog like in affection and loyalty. It’s part of that breed that they are extremely sweet. My showshoe Rocky (aka Rockstar) was EVERYONES friend. He slept in my bed every night snuggled right up against me. So affectionate.

I hope tequila accepts Chou so she can finally have a great life and keep you company when tequila is gone. She’s very sweet and is normal for the original cat to avoid the competition on the beginning but they can get very close once she senses no threat on the newcomer. If you can get them on the sofa with you at the same time that would solidify the deal! Once you’re able to pet both simultaneously, then they understand you’re there for both. Good luck!

Chou is so precious. Just keep at it with Tequila. I've had experience with introducing a new cat with a cat that just said NO! But I didn't give up. It took 6 months but my eldest finally gave in. They aren't best buddies, few cats are in a similar situation, but they don't attack each other. Well, they only have play fights now. 😊😊

Sweet cat! We should always give new cats time to adjust to being around other cats. Took my new cat 2 months to get along with the other one. Even tried things slow at first but it took time. Sadly, most people give up too soon and return them to the shelter.

Chou is truly one-of-a-kind, an incredibly adorable, loveable kitty. Kisses & strokes to her. You are an angel & are a great kitty-mommy. Surely everyone watching this hopes that Tequila will warm up to Chou (she seems to be going in that direction), and that you get to keep her.

Oh my goodness, what a sweet and pretty and chatty little darling. I'm glad Tequilla is coming around. I have two cats that don't like each other, but they still comfort each other when I'm not home. I really hope the two of them will get along and find a way to live together, because there is no doubt Chou is seriously attached to her mom now and being rejected would cause her an enormous amount of stress. I did! Unfortunately by the second night Chou would meow her little lungs out, freaking tequila out, and eventually also figured out how to open the door (at night too cos she’s clever like that!) which made it pretty hard to keep them separated 😸

You can see by her little face how sweet-natured she is. Cats have very expressive faces, and I'd be prepared to bet that this one is an absolute darling.
