For years I had a crow come to my kitchen balcony and ask for food. He made hmself look as pitiful as possible, all hunched over to one side and eyes downcast, as if life itself was forcing his body ever more downward. On rainy days he would let drops drip from his bill to show me how wet and pitiful he was and how badly he needed a little piece of raw meat (his favorite food) and of course I always gave it to him and actually ended up calling him "the actor" for his fine performances of imminent starvation. And so close to 40 years passed in this manner and the introduction of his children and grandchildren until one day ... I still mourn him and hope I might see him one more time...the time I would have grown wings to join him on his journey to whatever there is after death.

That's a very sweet story🥰 loving 😌 and sad 🥺 it brings tears to my eyes 😢 I also helped many different animals domestic and wild showing them love even though at times they were scared because I was a human and some humans can be cruel to animals lost dog's and cat's many times I got them from being fearful to loving and trusting my mother sister and I and whatever animals we had at the time believe me some of them were so scared it took me over a month to get that dog that the neighbor kids were throwing sticks and rocks at him I named him Skippy because he loved going in our field the grass is very high and he loved jumping so high you'd see him pop up out of the grass go back down and pop up again over and over he loved doing that the dogpound even let me borrow a big giant trap it was a very big cage no matter how much food I put in there of all different kinds he never fell for it we're sitting up in the field in my car watching him as the trap was in the yard one day my friend who is with me his brother came and said what's the trap for Skippy that dog we've been trying to catch him for a month he said I'll be right back he went home and came up with two hot dogs he said who's dog kennel is that in the back yard lol liking to be a joker I said it's my Sister's she sleeps in there and like the Pied Piper with those rats that followed him everywhere my friend's Brother started tossing little pieces of hot dogs over his shoulder as he was walking nonchalantly when he got about four feet from the kennel he stopped and he continued throwing pieces of hot dogs into the kennel 1 ft 2 ft 3 ft until Skippy got to the back corner of the kennel Johnny ran towards the door to shut it Skippy knew what he was going to do and he started running to the door at the same time Johnny slam the door and Skippy was right there trying to stick his head through the space frame and the door Johnny put his hand through put a leash around his neck gently brought him out but Skippy was so scared he was jumping three feet up in the air spinning like a fish on a line and falling sideways to the ground it made a horrible said I said Johnny hurry grab him before he gets hurt at first he wasn't able to because Skippy was going crazy 😧 he was just very scared but Johnny pick them up brought him to my SUV put him on the backseat instantly he calmed down we went to go get him some more food he fell asleep I tried to wake him up he would not wake up I literally thought I was shaking him calling his name he would not open his eyes or move I said oh my goodness did he just die he was just so exhausted he literally slept and would not wake up for anyting for 6 hours or more I'm glad I got him he was a wonderful dog I had a little Chihuahua and I needed to find Skippy a great home because I only believe in having as many animals as you can afford good food and vet care well I would always take my Chloe threw the dog part of the campground at Mosquito Lake especially on her Birthday 🎉 She would also get a cupcake and a little ice cream she never ate the whole thing but at least she had them one time a steak from Ponderosa steakhouse she would not eat it all at one time anyway we made a trip to the lake driving around asking different people on the dog side do you know anybody that would be interested in a wonderful dog we just rescued most people said no because they had dogs but there was this one family they had a camper a big tent that look like a house and a beautiful big giant truck I thought plenty of room for Skippy they had a girl and a boy and a golden retriever he said he really liked them ask his wife and they said that they would take him it was sad to see him go but it was so happy knowing that he was going to have a wonderful home they lived in Aurora Ohio one of my favorite places that's where Geauga Lake was at the time it was a wonderful Amusement Park 🎢 riding all them ride's and a beautiful area I used to have a car and I would drive and chase after animals on foot but then I had damaged my knee so I would started taking my Sister to help me she became the runner I would carry canned dog food dry dog food water bottles bowls and paper plates even if it was an animal that would never come to me at least I could still give them food I do everyday one time we had a house fire we did lose her house it was electrical I couldn't walk up family or friends steps or that far so my dog and I lived in our car all that winter ❄️ it would be 21° in the car in the morning I made your Chloe was taken care of she even made a trip to the vet to get her shots one day we were going to drive past our old house I'd seen something in the road from the distance I thought it was a deer when we got close it was a big giant pregnant dog but you could tell she was starving so I went to a dog shelters that would give you free dog food and cat food I would go up and give her food and water everyday one day I went she was living under the steps of a beautiful vacant house she wasn't there they're elderly lady across the street said she's not there I said where did she go she said the dog catcher just came and got her I said oh no oh no I called the Mahoning County dog pound and they said they did not have her to try the Trumbull County so I did well they had her and I said please don't kill her I have been taking care of her I can't adopt her I don't have the money for that but I have been feeding and watering her they said we are not going to kill her we are going to meet a shelter from Michigan halfway and they're going to take her to the shelter they only take pregnant dogs I said can you do me a favor put in the file my phone number and ask them to send me a text to let me know she was safe and that she had her puppies well 3 Days later I'm parked in a parking lot just killing time and my phone beeped it said 8 girls and 2 boys I looked and there was a picture of her in a kiddie pool looking exhausted but relieved and all these little puppies all over inside that swimming pool I was so relieved that they were happy and safe 🙌🏼🥰🐾💞 I've rescued so many animals and I will continue

I shared my life with a conure for 34 years. He was very devoted to me. I in turn was devoted to him. He passed the day after Memorial Day this past Spring. I still sometimes call out his name or look in his empty cage expecting to see him. We had a special bond too. Giving your heart to a bird well is very special 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@hammypie thank you I still have 2 other parrots with me. I adopted Rio my 31 y/o Blue and Gold Macaw when she was 10 months old. I also adopted Ozzie my u known age but at least 29 y/o. 22 of those years he’s been with me. The bond I had with my conure was special and I do have a good bond with Rio but she’s much bigger not so easy to carry her around with me like I could with Flapper. She’s having play dates with another large macaw named Chewy who was abused, he’s a green wing who had his sinuses crushed and his beak healed shut so when she went to pick him up and saw he was emaciated and his beak had been fused shut. She has to take him every six weeks just so he can eat. He’s in a fabulous home now and happy but he was subjected to severe trauma poor thing. Thanks for caring enough to send me a message 😇

I have a rescued cockatiel I have had for 25 years and he was given to be by a wild bird rescuer. The bird is a male and i taught him to say a few words and now he is blind in one eye and can no longer walk well but he is on my shoulder most of the time. I do not know what I would do without him since losing my parents in 2003 and 2004. He is my soul mate and we do as much as we can together. So I know how this lady with the crows feels. I am almost 76 (in oct) and he is the only reason I am still living.

@@susanleilani2408 My cousin had his store bought cockatiel for 27 years. I have heard the longest known cockatiel in captivity lived to be 35. My bird can no longer fly and and he lost his left eye to cancer but he still talks sometimes and he is still hanging in there. Sometimes he sits on my shoulder too.

Edie, you hang in there. I have started to believe that souls come to us in different forms. Animals are considered an inferior species to humans, but anyone who has spent time around them can't help but be impressed. I can't think of a time when animals (other than us) started wars. If that is progress, I will stick to my deer. If your beloved cockatiel passes, then I would recommend volunteering at a rescue site if one is near. Don't stop and don't give up. Unfortunate animals need talented people like you.

I agree. I really feel that some creatures are unjustly maligned because they're not pretty and they don't cuddle and they're only around for food . . . but take me: I mean, anybody hates wasps, right? *I* hate wasps. I was terrified of anything that looked like it was just a big sting with wings, like bees, flying ants etc. but I had a special hatred/fear in my heart with wasps. Until one day this creature kept buzzing around me as I sat drinking my sparkling water in the sun on my balcony, getting a tan and reading my book. I thought it was a honeybee, so I thought I might get it to stick around, because for a few years now, since my brother started beekeeping (I never visited him and saw his bees) but somehow my mind said "They must be okay." So I went and got a tiny sampler jar of honey that I had hanging around my kitchen for years, and I put it on the window sill on the balcony . . . and sure enough, Mrs. Bee (is what I named her) came to eat some. And she stayed there all day! She never bothered me. She would buzz away on errands, but then she would make a beeline for the honeypot . . . I videoed her at kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqewdIaei7ilsJo . . . and then my brother emails me and says "That's a wasp." And then I looked more closely and I saw that yes indeed, Mrs. Bee was Mrs. Yellowjacket. (You can go to my channel and see more Mrs. Bee videos) Since that day, other wasps have come to share in the treasure and not all of them have been so agree-a-bee-able but NONE OF THEM has stung me. NONE OF THEM has been scary or aggressive or threatening. I don't wave my hands and shout or throw things or react violently when one of them comes near me; I just wave whatever I'm holding CALMLY in fron of my face and they go away pretty much immediately. I wouldn't say that I LOVE "my" wasps, but I WOULD say that the whole experience has changed my mind about wasps. Just like any wild animal, you have to respect them and share THEIR world with them as calmly and quietly as you can; don't try to approach them and just relax, and they will actually begin to TRUST you. There . . . that's my lecture. I would just LOVE the opportunity to have a bird . . . I adore birds . . . *sigh* one day . . .

True, very true. My life became much less complicated and much happier when I got my first dog a few years ago. I have 3 now. I literally plan my life around the beasties to make sure they always have freedom and activities and ... great healthy food. All I get in return is unconditional love and companionship. @@maryshanley329 Benedict is a hooded crow (corvus cornix)! They look like they wear little grey jackets. Got lots of them here in Berlin, and magpies too. Magpies are smaller, wear a white jacket, have white segments in their wings, and have long tail feathers with striking iridescence. Very pretty birdies. Depends on the kind of magpie though. Pretty sure the Australian ones are bigger and a little less flamboyant lol

This bird is obviously a raven. Crows have broad yellow beaks. They are seed eaters. Ravens have narrow sharp beaks . They eat insects and worms. Great intelligence and very similar body shapes but different life styles. Both make great pets and young ones will "imprint" on a person and adopt him/her as a family member.

We had pet crows on the farm. Babies blown out of their nests or maybe cast out by parents. Henry, Charlie and Poe. What interesting animals? Charlie's best friend was our tomcat. I remember the bird hopping thru the pasture by the side of the Siamese- just his tail visible in the grass. So funny. Henry was a big talker and prankster, our mother's baby. Poe was the youngest and I'd feed him tomato hornworms and grasshoppers from the garden. They all were free to come and go and would fly thru the woods to the house when we came home. Took clothespins off the line so the wash fell on the grass. Swooped in to steal the badminton birdie. Rode on the sideview mirror as Dad checked the cattle. They are endlessly fascinating animals.

Corvids are such remarkable little creatures - when I was doing wildlife rescue I fostered a baby Raven who never forgot that kindness and after his release he used to leave little gifts on my windowsill. Now he's got a family of his own but I still see him around. The last magpie I fostered(although the Australian magpie isn't technically a corvid) keeps coming back to visit and actually comes into the house every time and when she has a new baby it really feels like she's introducing me to her kids.

What a beautiful story. This lady has a heart of gold! A few weeks ago a crow hit a transformer near my house. It knocked out the power everywhere. I walked over to the telephone pole and seen the crow almost lifeless at the bottom of the pole. He smelled like burned feathers. I held him to keep it safe from cats until it recovered from the shock. I let it go and it flew across the street to the other crows. They are my favorite birds because i feed squirrels and the crows always alert me and the squirrels when a hawk is around. Very smart birds!!!👍🥰

They line up .Never fight and make no mess. Living a while in Colorado, USA, I once observed a group of magpies making noise, agitated, and walking around a dead magpie, that looked to have been hit by car. I feel they knew it was dead and were distraught. The commotion went on for a while and I didn't disturb it. Knowing how smart corvid's are, I respect them a great deal. And they have emotions for sure.

I was beautifully blessed with raising 3 Crows that had been accidentally disturbed by a neighbor who was trimming a palm tree. The trio were each different from their siblings, unique in personality and disposition. Faith as I named her, was mine from the moment we met... Life is too short not to help creatures in need. I have been doing it for over 30 years. Your story was beautiful to witness. It brought many memories back to me, of my own 'crazy bird lady' life. That was my loving reference from all in the neighborhood who knew where to bring the fallen ; )

I used to rescue animals for many years now that my car doesn't run because it's set for so long because I'm in a electric wheelchair now I can still transfer I can stand and walk a little bit I can still drive I have a driver's license but it was easier to catch the bus at the time so I could have more Independence and go more places that doesn't have wheelchairs now my SUV is no good I used to carry dog food moist and drive for the dogs or cats when we had an electrical fire at the house my sister had it fixed and then it started acting up years later but I lived in the car all winter with my dog she still made a visit to the vet to get her shots I think he was hoping that would not happen but sorry Chloe I love you so much as I've always told her and other people it may be hard on me financially but it's easier to keep them well then to let them get sick and try to get them better but after she's done getting her shots and make sure she gets a special treat I'm in a nursing home I have an electric wheelchair I mean I feed the birds outside we have big Black crowes little blackbirds little sparrows I don't get to see my dog my friends have her and they don't bring her to see me I don't think they want to give her back she such a precious little 7 lb Chihuahua Chloe Marie 🐾💞 one thing I'd like to get is a camper van just something to throw a bed in the back and have some other things like cabinets or little dressers to screw to the side of the wall possibly a little fridge and I'm taking my dog my social security check and my electric wheelchair and we're going traveling I've been in this nursing home for three years this time I've been in nursing homes a total of six times this is going to be my last especially at this one these people here are mean and they yell and they swear at you the state department is here all the time nothing really changes too much but I look forward to the day when I can also leave this building yes I will miss my friends dearly but I already told them I'm not coming back to visit because it's too many bad memories the staff is mean I applied for a home choice right now it's so you can get a handicap accessible apartment I can take care of myself I have before for many years but I would like to volunteer at a shelter I've inquired but I would still like to have money to also feed and water stray cats and dogs and find them homes like I used to it would be opportune to catch them like I used to and put them in a shelter around here where I live there so many abuse cases it's just unbelievable how people do there was a lady that was working to rescue animals and they found her and it's some other people were paid to take care of these dogs in her house and for some reason the neighbors called the grass was really high and the garage door was overflowing with drunk dog carriers everything so the shelter place went there and they found 165 dead dogs in the one house in 35 in her other house they said they were going to be pressing charges hopefully jail time I said hopefully Jail time it should definitely be jail time and then the news said for all the people or should I say the monsters for not caring for them animals and getting paid for it my sister and I believe that people that do that to animals should have the same thing done to them no food no water no healthcare 😡

I used to be a herp hobbiest back in the 1990s, and I worked for a reptile shop while going to college around the same time. I had lizards, however. I used to love going out herping with friends in N. Scottsdale and Fountain Hills, before it was developed. We only collected for observation, never for harming. Honestly if one thinks about it, it's the kind of comparison that don't say much. But we can surely say that most people underestimate the intellect of animals. But we also often attribute them with capacities that they do not have. Corvids are amazing. I have a pair of hooded crows, that visits me every day (the same precise time) for assorted nuts. So I have observed that their sense of time is better than most grown women I have dated. And they manage it without watches. I believe the sense of time, is connected to our local sense. And birds in general seem to have an astounding local sense and sense for space. That being said, humans (some) have imaginations that no animal can quite come close to. Together with the opposable thumb it makes us able to explore things in ways that many animals can't achieve. But if one observes corvids what they seem to do most, is teasing, and playing, when not foraging and exploring.

What a beautiful story! Just a thought on how long your babies might live....we've had a pigeon for 23 years, my husband found injured on the side of the road. Our vet said he wouldn't live overnight. So Don is at least 23 years old, he continues to amaze us! So however long a crow is supposed to live or a bird with serious health conditions, with love and good care, they can surprise! Wishing you all the best!

Crows are my favourite birds . I feed them in the mornings between 5:30am and 6:30am . One crow waits for me to fill the area with food . He than starts cawing and flies off to wake the others . They leave me bottle caps , stones and other little trinkets. They disappear for a few weeks , every now and then. I miss them while they are gone . I feed hundreds of sparrows and yard birds . Only the crows talk to me and bring me gifts . One thing I don't enjoy is when I catch them hunting . I am surrounded by open fields and the crows, love them some field mice . 😯

Thank you for sharing this wonderful story. When walking my grand-dogs on the beach one day, along came a man with two large dogs and 3 crows hopping along beside him. We talked, he told me he fed the crows, they brought him "gifts" of various items and when he went out to walk they would walk with him and his dogs. It was fun and interesting to see.

I witnessed a crow funeral once and it impacted me in such a way, it was actually super sad and completely changed how I view them along with other animals/ our world.
