Yes. Voiceplay will be releasing their Halloween video probably this weekend. It is absolutely fantastic. And very ghostly.

This song has been covered by many singers since it was written in 1948. Bing Crosby, Johnny Cash, and many others, but the one i knew was by Frankie Laine . Yes I'm that old. It sounds different due to the depth of his voice and I think maybe he left out some repeats of the chorus but it's hard to remember now from so long ago. Otherwise I believe the one I knew said cowpoke rather than cowboy, but that's the only thing change. There is some talk of Avi, Tim and Geoff doing something together but getting together is proving difficult. As for the one looking evil, when Kathy, his wife, saw it she said he looked wicked as f***. And he does. :) I love it! I loved the Purple People Eater too, that's going back some, to my teens in 1958! I was 14 then and it was just a fun song.

i listen to the Johnny Cash version often and the lyrics in the Geoff cover sound the same as the Johnny Cash version at least. Before Geoff the Johnny Cash version is the only one ive ever heard of this song. My dad is a huge Johnny Cash fan. Personally i love what Geoff has done with this song, i enjoy it just as much as the one with Johnny Cash, maybe i tiny bit more than the Cash one because Geoff's voice is amazing.

Left to right... Jeff, Daryl, Geoff, Goff and Jeoph. In the behind the scenes video when Geoff was getting his makeup and hair on as Daryl he started to sing really high like Barry Gibb. With no effort. Higher than Earl.

As other people have said, VoicePlay’s Halloween video was delayed Layne’s loss of power from the hurricane, but the patrons have it now so it will be available soon. Layne did the new one, and you won’t recognize him! They did release a very short Halloween one on their mini channel. They also had a couple minis from last year. (Can’t remember if you did those.) And the best news - Tony and Layne premiered the next Villians Lair episode on a zoom call for patrons this evening! That means it will be out soon for you to see. One word of warning - be sure to turn on the captions. Once the song starts, it goes fast and furious, and you won’t want to miss a word! I can’t wait for you to see it.

Geoff will never leave Voiceplay. He and Layne are the founding members from 1997. They are also the ones that produce, arrange, edit, direct, concept their videos. Geoff does all that and films his as well. Tony Wakim (former member) makes all their costumes. He left Voiceplay to be behind the scenes in 2016 when he and Layne bought Pattycake Productions to give Voiceplay a permanent studio to film in. Geoff films there as well. This one is his first time using a green screen on his own. Eli helped him and showed him how. He started this in June but had lots of problems with it. So he set it aside and did The Rains of Castamere instead. He picked it back up the end of Aug. After filming he again started having problems with it keying (blending the green screen with the characters). Finally after several weeks we at patreon were able to watch it. A week later it went on KZbin.

I love your enthusiastic reactions! And I have to agree. Zombie Jeff over there on the left is definitely the creepiest. It’s like the more facial hair the ghost had the less threatening they appeared. Daryl in the leather duster is my favorite. And when Jeoph, with the mustache sings, his eyes just go right through you. Now I am curious to know what lyrics you guys sang. Of course being as old as dirt, I remember this from Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers back on TV was black and white. There is a parody of this song that’s pretty old. It appeared on the show Hee Haw. I remember my dad watching it and hearing this crazy version of the song. It’s called Ghost Chickens in the Sky. It’s not scary but it’s funny as hell and just odd enough that you might like it. And yes, the flying purple people eater was a mainstay of my childhood as well as the witch doctor. I can see Layne having a lot of fun with ting tang walla walla bing bang!

Really enjoyed your reaction to this one. I agree, Geoff's voice is smooth everywhere in his range. Voiceplay definitely has another one coming in a few days. It was slightly delayed when Layne lost power during the hurricane. I don't know if the Purple People Eater would be the best for Geoff, how about What's Behind the Green Door? He started this one in June and it got delayed by life. So maybe he has another one in the works, but no hints yet. Subscribed for more Geoff and Voiceplay1

Ilona, they have also reacted to PattyCake Productions Villain’s Lair if that something that you have watched. If you’re not familiar with it (which I’m pretty sure you are) Layne and Tony have created an original series based on Disney villains. It’s really fun.

I'll second that suggestion. They are between 18 and 30-ish so still maturing basses but still pretty outstanding. They are Peter Barber (Opera), Tomi P., Bobby Waters (aka Bobby Bass), and Marwan Ayman (18 years old). They all have their own channels and The Bass Gang has it's own channel. Absolutely check them out.

Hi there. Hope you two are well. I love this song so much and hearing this version…wow! I love it. I do feel like the lyrics are a little different. I’m in the car and can’t hear the lyrics as well cause windows are down for dogs. But I’m gonna listen again when I get home. Thank you for introducing me to some great artists and music.

The lyrics is a little different in one key point. It was originally written/sung by Stan Jones around 1948. When he sang it, yippee yi ay came before yippee yi oh. Over the decades, modern performers sing yippee yi oh before yippee yi ay.

Thanks, guys. The lyrics are not altered by Geoff. The song was first released by Stan Jones and his Death Valley Rangers in 1949. Also recorded by Vaughn Monroe, Burl Ives, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash and many others. The biggest variation between versions (aside from parodies) is whether you say "yippie-i-o" or "yippie-i-a" first.

You guys are awesome. Thank you for another great reaction to Geoff. Please do a reaction video of Voice Plays cover In The Hall Of The Mountain King. It was write as incidental piece played by an orchestra and it had no words. The tune was arranged for a part of the play In The Hall Of The Mountain King. The tune was also used in many cartoons & movies. I love how Voice Play mimick the orchestra music that's a repetitive tune. It is so funny.

I think you may have been expecting "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors. But I could be wrong. This song is an OLD song from the late 40's and it has been remade several times. And you saying "he needs a band", he is the Bass of an A Cappella group called Voice Play. IMO, you might want to check them out. Good Post, by the way.
