I think the word to describe Geoff's voice is mellifluous. It means honey-like if you don't know it. Smooth and golden like liquid honey. So soothing. I don't know why some harmonies touch the soul the way they do. Maybe someone has studied such things. I just know they bring tears to my eyes, or chills. And Geoff surely knows exactly how to do it.

Geoff is without a doubt my favorite artist these days, bar none. He is just the total package, from his absolutely brilliant arrangements, to his jaw-dropping performances, to his fantastic videos. As an artist myself (although visual arts, not music), I always appreciate it when I see another artist assuming full control not only of the art they produce, but how it is represented, and in that regard, Geoff is Life Goals. I admire him so much for all the work he does on his solo projects, while simultaneously doing the exact same thing on a larger scale with VoicePlay. How he finds the hours in the day, I'll never know, but I am for certain glad that he does! I hope he'll continue creating music for us to enjoy for many, many years to come.

I had a brain melt down too... I remembered that they all are the same person at the same time as I didn’t. The second Geoff from the left was the one who took the first higher lead. Later the piano-Geoff sang the high lead and I thought “Wow, that Geoff can sing that high too!” 😂

I'm a huge fan of Geoff's bass voice, but it's his bari-tenor here that had me in tears. He's just so expressive and he just keeps getting better and better. This is so beautiful. You're going to love House of the Rising Sun. He adds a lot of "twang" to his voice for it, but it fits with the "Nawlin's" (New Orleans) area.

I remember Tennessee Ernie Ford singing this and Sixteen Tons. Geoff definitely did them both justice. I think improved them to my old ears. I think Ernie has a big grin on his face.

You're not alone in admiring the amazing harmonies as if they were sung by different people. I tend to label "them": Low Geoff, High Geoff, and The Twins LOL He has his sightlines so perfect across each segment, it really looks as if "they" are all reacting to each other in performance. What's even more amazing is the piano used for the video was exactly one-half step flat from the vocal/piano track and Geoff managed to keep the pain of hearing that off his face as he played. It was such a HORROR!! This is a heartfelt, gorgeous performance, telling the simple story of the song so beautifully. I cried when I first heart it and I still get a little choked up each time I hear it.

I love how he looks at his doppelgängers like “you got this.’ I love looking at him! I can listen to him all day. I like his narrations too- the only thing missing with those are his beautiful face. Check out his narration of the Raven and incident at Owl Creek. The red mask is good too. You can’t go wrong with his voice

The last time the music pulls out and all four voices hold out the word "you". It's just amazing to hear the subharmonic and the falsetto. Just shows how much range he has. Incredible.

My first encounter with this song (except playing and singing it myself from dad’s old “The Joy of American Folksong” piano book as a kid) was when I as a teen bought an old Bob Dylan record with this song (about 25 years ago 😳). I like Bob’s version, but I absolutely love Geoff’s version!

Love how the 4 Geoffs watch each other and take cues from the others. The lows grab you in the solar plexus and the highs carry you beyond the stars. Beautiful. Shenandoah is said to have originated with French voyageurs traveling down the Missouri River. The lyrics tell the story of a trader who fell in love with the daughter of an Algonquian chief, Shenandoah. American sailors heading down the Mississippi River picked up the song and made it a capstan shanty that they sang while hauling in the anchor. This is one of the songs we learned in grade school music class. It always brings a few tears to my eyes.

Shenandoah is a traditional American folksong dates back to at least the 1850s pre American Civil War. Yes Tennessee Ernie Ford is one of the famous treatments. Geoff does alot of songs that Ernie had done eg. 16 Tons. Usually always by a baritone or a bass. Johnny Cash also sang it as well. Geoff plays piano as does Tim Foust. Avi does too but he concentrates on the stringed instruments.

A very unique arrangement that suits his wide vocal range and holds the integrity of the old folk song. John Hagen leader of the Texas Tenors and a trained opera singer, did an Emmy winning a capella arrangement of this song that was more traditional. This is one of the best known of all American folk songs and still sounds bright as a new penny. Kudos to Geoff.

Just wanted to add: Shenandoah is an old American traditional folk song. The Shenandoah Valley is located in Virginia, in the Appalachian Mountains, and it is surpassingly beautiful. I can't decide whether I like the name better in the original Cherokee "Shenandoah" or in the English translation, "Daughter of the Stars". Amazing place, amazing song, amazing voice.

Geoff does a lot of research into music he’s considering, and usually won’t arrange something for himself (or VoicePlay) unless he thinks he can say something original with his arrangement. I think that’s why his arrangements are always so fresh and beautiful. He plays piano on High and Dry, and he says that’s his favorite. Just one of him, but he still covers the whole range.

I used to hate this song. I have heard so many horrible versions of it over the years. If ever one happened to be in choir in the southern US it was a staple. Most seemed to used the exact same arrangement regardless of the talents available. I now realize it was the awful choir masters with little imagination. This is sooooo beautiful. I just could not imagine ever liking this song until I heard his version.
