I was 10 for Simon & Garfunkel. Then my granddaughter linked me to Disturbeds' cover which blew my mind. Now Geoff has made it his own. I am amazed by all three, but it's Geoff who's breathing new life into every song he covers.

You should also check out Pentatonix's version as well. I personally like Geoff's version more, but Pentatonix's version was great as well.

What I take from this is the angst and sorrow because people are still not listening.

Props to Eli for the lighting and Layne on Steady cam. Love how they're friends as well as bandmates and how they help each other out! ✌️❤️🥕

Yes! They're not only a group, but a family working together. That's what I love about a cappella

I absolutely love Geoff's cover. It was disconcerting at first that I couldn't see the Geoffs singing harmony. This is the only time (so far) that he has not put them on screen. I think it would have detracted from the feeling he was going for. I agree with your "comforting" feeling about it. Thanx for reacting to this, I always enjoy your reactions. I am sure that the lighting, done by Voiceplay's Eli, will be a big part of your analysis. The Jurassic Park sounding subwoofer was amazing, almost felt more than heard at times. It was fun to watch a couple of reactors bolt up to see what kind of natural disaster was going on. I hope you will get to Voiceplay's latest, Golden Hour. Production will amaze you and the story is so sweet and romantic!

I also noticed Geoff didn't have multiple clones of himself singing in this video, which I feel really would have taken away some emotion from the song.

He didn't clone himself for high and dry, either. Sometimes he doesn't 😉

The absolute master at bringing out the emotions of a song. I love his low bass, but I'm so glad we're hearing more of his range now. That Eb4 in the last verse was seriously impressive. THIS is why we love Goeff.

About your observation at 8:10 - That's exactly the feeling I got from this cover as well. I don't listen to a lot of music because it gives me anxious feelings or makes me feel as if everything is doomed. Geoff's cover has been the only one so far where I can appreciate the music as well as the lyrics and feel like things will be okay, even if they're not great right now. It's a very comforting thought that I feel is repeated in a lot of his songs, even the melancholic and somber ones.

Thanks for your comment 😊 Music is powerful in so many ways. I'm glad you also found a comforting emotion from Geoff's version of this song.

Quote from someone's comment under another reaction... 🙂 "S&G: is this something we should worry about? Pentatonix: we can fix this if we work at it together. Disturbed: You were warned, you didn't listen, NOW YOU MUST PAY! Geoff: I'm so, so sorry..." Somehow, I agree. 🙂 Even in the most powerful moments, it ALWAYS ands in that (for me) disheartened "...of silence...". 🙂 And it's not only the voice or the music. His whole body language and facial expression tell me that. OF COURSE, I can be totally wrong, and then some. 🙂 Nice reaction, as always. And you look younger with the glasses. 🙂 See you next time.

I read somewhere that: Original = warning. Disturbed = anger at the ignored warning. Geoff = sorrow at the results of ignoring the warning.

Such a beautiful cover. So melancholy and sad, but there is a light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. This song literally touches my soul and makes me cry every time I listen to it. There just are no words to properly describe how it makes me feel. I heard someone say that the original was the warning, Disturbed's cover was the anger, and Geoff's was the sadness and reflection that comes after.

Very interesting regarding the three versions of this song. And yeah, that's the thing about music... it brings feelings that we can't necessarily describe, but we can communicate through.

Growing up on S&G- Bridge Over Troubled. Water being the very first record I bought- I have strong opinions of who can qualify to cover the original. Geoff qualifies with great honours. Love his version and can hear it over again and again. Tommy J did a very good cover as well, more lamenting than Geoff. Tommy sang his version making homage to the death of a very close friend who passed away at the start of covid and whose favourite song it was.

I'll have to check Tommy's version out.

I love Geoff's version of this. I've loved the song for over 50 yrs and Simon and Garfunkel's poetry puts it in a class by itself. I listened to Disturbed and it was very good but to me, it was all about the anger and very one-dimensional. I feel that Geoff incorporates all the emotional content from the original poetry and it is my go-to Sounds of Silence.
@JeffreyHackReacts Жыл бұрын
Haha very true regarding Disturbes version. But at the same time they are more metal. Geoff Castellucci's style in music really resonates with this song in my opinion.

loved your video on "house of the rising sun", there was subtitles, and you paused when you talked for the most part. I missed alot of your comments on this one because i couldn't "cut out" the music and hear what you said. sad

I appreciate your feedback. I get mixed comments from viewers who enjoy me pausing the video to speak, and then some who would rather me just watch the video. Sometimes if there's a slight thought in my mind that I want to spit out fast, I don't want to keep pausing and unpausing over and over.
