To weld or not weld, is indeed the question. Nice..... Looks a lot better than the last time I saw it. BTW forgot to say that the locator bolt that was in the alloy housing had the end broken off........ Looking forward to the engine
@GeoffreyCroker6 жыл бұрын
The housing was my original one. One day someone will end up with the one you sent me, and curse a broken bolt. Haha.

João Cardoso - A saying that I respect is - "That a man who makes no mistakes, makes nothing." The dry humour and the odd mistake are what gives this channel character. Keep it up GC.

@GeoffCroker loving the videos. Regarding the gear lever rust pitting. Might be worth considering use heatshrink on the shaft.. it would give a great finish and it’s rubbery nature will help protect it for years of wear and tear.. plus easy to clean ;)

Markal makes some lacquer paint sticks that would fill in the shift pattern nicely. I've used them for the lettering on pistols and carb levers and have had great wear resistance.

Have you changed your name? Or just the picture? Or is this a different Silas?
@Doughboy19416 жыл бұрын
Same Silas, My picture was from about 6 years ago so I decided to change it to the eagle cause Merica. I change the name because I plan to do some restoration videos and Doughboy didn't seem right.

i wish someone would make videos like this for toyota 22re motor rebuilds. nice work friend
@thermmaloverload6 жыл бұрын
There’s no need, Land Rover engines require mandatory rebuilding. Toyota’s occasionally need an oil change. I say this having had a corolla with 400,000 km that I drove with a blown head gasket for 9 months. 😊

Electrical heat shrink tube does a good job on gear levers - smooth, even finish and doesn't chip or scratch like paint.

Hi mate, great video series! But watching this gearbox rebuild has scared the sh..t out of me. I just bought a 1976 series 3 and I thought I'd attempt a restoration. If I could do it half as good as what you have I'll be stoked :)

For what is quite basic transmission it surprising how awkward they can be work on :-) Think I would of been inclined go with a slickshift kit, not cheap but does make big difference in shift quality .
