You didn't think I'd not do the rest of the stations that are Ends of Lines did you? :-)
Welcome to Aldgate! At the end of the Metropolian Line, right in Zone 1 in the City of London, and it's a lovely terminus station ...

Hi Geoff I live in Aldgate and I'll tell you why those underpasses were closed. The management of roads and pavements was split between 3 authorities - City of London, Tower Hamlets & GLA (red route) There were a number of complaints about cleanliness, and also concerns about rough sleeping. It turned out it was too difficult for the 3 authorities to come to some kind of effective management agreement, so when the old Aldgate gyratory system was closed to make some new pedestrian space they decided to shut them down.
@michaelwincott

So rather than solving the rough sleeping, let's get rid of the space for them to sleep in. This country is just a horrible place.

Thanks for another video which brings back memories as I used Aldgate for many years,. Also a big thank you for taking time to show the memorial plaque and to remember those who lost their lives in the Aldgate bombing. I was in the train in front of the one which got bombed. Made it to Canary Wharf and I will never forget having to walk back from there to Marylebone- all tubes cancelled . It was a very strange walk through the streets that day. RIP those who lost their lives.

It is amazing indeed. I've sometimes wondered if a dive-under line (as between Ken.High-St and Earl's Court) could be managed? I think the distance between Aldgate E and Liverpool St station is a little less, but with modern traction moters maybe the slopes could be a little steeper.

I enjoyed the vlog Geoff about Aldgate station,I went to school just to the left of that station,and us school boys in the late 1950's were puzzled by a Metropolian train that always stood on the right middle station,it had dirty brown carriages like a overground train you opened the door to a compartment turning the handle and the window had a leather stroop so you could actually open it as you went through the tunnel,of course we had to do that,and so our adventure ended at Moorgate or was it Farringdon,anyway the train went off to wherever its destination was,also you mentioned the tiles my grandfather was one of the men who tiled Aldgate I thought they had all been removed,I must next time I am in the area pay a visit.

When I was there it was rather late in the evening and it felt a bit strange because nobody else was there. It was just trains on all sides but basically no passengers using the station. The train we then got on to leave towards Liverpool Street was also rather empty, if not completely.

The Metropolitan diamond station sign is not a roundel. Roundels are round. Aldgate bus station was known as Minories Green Line coach station and was where coaches from the Romford direction terminated for many years. It was also the terminal point for many trolleybus services from the east, because the City of London Corporation would not allow overhead wires in its territory.

The shot is of Liverpool Street Met and Circle. The westbound platform is wider because before 1960 the loco hauled Aylesbury trains used to terminate in the bay platform that used to exist the other side of the board. There was a spur at the west end where the locos would be held for the next trip. Hence the disused signal box. The bus station was originally the Minories and used for green line routes into Essex and Trolleybuses as the latter were banned inside the City of London.

I did a scavenger hunt not long ago and one of the challenges was "photograph 3 trains at once at Aldgate". We thought this would be simple enough because there always seemed to be 2 met trains parked and you just need to wait for a circle to show up. Unfortunately when we got there one of the mets pulled away and it looked like another wouldn't arrive for a little while. THANKFULLY 2 circle trains showed up at once, which was really lucky bc we were fully aware they only arrive once every 10 minutes.

From the eastbound District/H&C platform at Mile End you can see the next eastbound platform of Bow Road station through the tunnel. Are these the only instances on the Underground where you can directly see one platform from another platform at two separate tube stations?
