How could I have missed this four years ago!!! Seapoint, a station I have visited many times over the past 50 years, as my Aunt live 5 minutes walk from here. Always a joy to ride this line, even on wet and windy day.

The gate was an entrance to platform 2 for elderly and disabled people, but since the lifts were installed, everyone uses the main entrance. That gate has not been used for years. Information from Irish rail.

For me as a Scottish Gaelic speaker it's interesting to see/hear those Irish words. Some are very similar to Gaelic, some totally different. At least I largely know how to pronounce Irish when I see it written down. :)

I lived in Bray for 10 years many many years ago. Like Dan I went to school near there (Newpark! Brilliant that it’s still there! 😀) and spent many an afternoon waiting for my train back home. Lovely to see it looking as I remember it!

@@qwertyTRiG Well, if you are not willing to speak it to someone and rather just speak English, you will eventually forget how to speak it. It is only natural. The only way to keep a language living is when it is actually used on a regular basis. If folk are unwilling to speak the language of their land and their forefathers and just rather speak the language of the former colonisers, then they shouldn't be surprised that their Irish is bad or gets worse over time when they never want to use it regularly.

Geoff your in Ireland! Make sure you go see "Brunels folly" it's a piece of rail line designed and built by Brunel on the dart just before gravestones in Wicklow the last stop on the dart I think....brunel tried to build a piece of rail around Bray head (a big lump of rock) right on th coast and it ended up collapsing and killing a lot of people so they build a new piece of rail just up from it and you can see the old line Brunel built that ultimately collapsed

I used to get the DART home after work during a fairly short-lived employment in the IADT "Media Cube". When hanging around on the northbound platform, it was interesting to peer through those circular windows into a derelict house, or maybe it was the original station building. There was a glass bottle sitting inside somewhere that looked at least 50 years old. Also, bonus points for Nigel the Sound DART Driver.

Platform 1 looks incredibly narrow. When the air is breathable again, please come to Sydney! Now that Camellia is closed along with the rest of the Carlingford line, the least used Sydney station is probably Cowan or Clarendon. Going a bit farther afield to the Central Coast, Wondabyne is a single-carriage length station which doesn't have road access - only on foot or by river: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wondabyne_railway_station

Osin Smith, it does the fintown railway has a station and about 3 miles of narrow gauge track, it’s the only station in county Donegal.

@@tonyskinner1643 I was thinking in the same way as they have 'royal mail points' in different parts of the world (as in an international office representative mailbox rather then that of the national Post (whichever it is in that country))... usually, such mail boxes may exist in large international harbors, on air-force bases, or at resorts (in popular holiday places like Spain)... I was surprised to see what looked like one of those at a small station (but again, I did not think the design of an Irish post box will be the same as the British).

@@stanislavkostarnov2157 It's just an ordinary mail box. It just happens to be over 120 years old, (since it is cast with Queen Victoria's monogram) and no-one has seen fit to replace it. After independence the Irish Post Office simply painted them all-over green.
