Something tells me West Anglia passengers won't see it that way. It's a TfL obsession that should stay where it's truly needed. It isn't on West Anglia.
@Reason0776 жыл бұрын
Are we sure the West Anglia 8-car sets won't have a different seat configuration? Like the Elizabeth Line 345s, they could have a mix of seating styles.
@SamSitar6 жыл бұрын
some will charge their phones on the train.
@Wasserfeld.6 жыл бұрын
Reason077 That was planned, I even remember TfL saying that. At some point they changed their mind. It's just silly. All other operators cope with 2+2 seating on new trains, even SWRs new suburban trains will be and they have some of the highest station usage in London. I can't see why West Anglia can't. If the South London operators did this, people would go mad.
@Reason0776 жыл бұрын
Lee - I guess it must be because they want a common fleet with identical units that can be swapped between lines. Otherwise it's strange that TfL would specify (mixed) 2+2 on the Elizabeth line but not the West Anglia.
@stephenholt46706 жыл бұрын
I wish they had a few forward facing seats mixed in with the sideways, like the Metropolitan line trains. A lot of the time the train is not that full and for train geeks like us it makes it much harder to look out of the window when facing away from it.

Lovely and clean and fresh. For how long do we think? Now, if they could develop a paint/coating for the grab bars that doesn't collect those weird black scuffs you see on nearly every train then that would be a big plus. I always think they must be off the rubber soles of people's shoes, but as you see them even on bars coming out of the ceiling I don't know where they come from. Unless the British gymnastics team have really run out of funding and have to do their workouts on the trains!

Majority of the London overground doesn’t need trains replaced, the trains less then years old or just about 10 years old. Only part that needs new trainers is the Lee valley part. The Bakerloo line, Central line, Picadilly line like 30 years old and haven’t yet been replaced
@mjcats20116 жыл бұрын
@Shockwave, these trains are only replacing Class 172, Class 315 and 317.

They're only replacing the old trains on the Lea Valley Lines and the diesels on the GOBLIN which are being re purposed for use around Birmingham. The Piccadilly has just been ordered new trains for entry into service in about 5 years whilst the Bakerloo is waiting for a decision to be made on the Lewisham extension before ordering. After they are complete the Central will receive them as well (the central's trains are only just over half way through their life cycle)

@SamJones-x7q6 жыл бұрын
Great, the idiotic seat argument. On 387s, 707s and 345s, seats like that are acceptable because they are to maximise space and they are on metro trains. Ie. not for long distance. And anyway, I commute everyday for over 40 minutes on a 707 (and I have a bad back) and they support my back so much better than seats on units such as the 458s, which are not only uncomfortable but massive as well, minimising space. On trains such as the 700 and 800, not so acceptable because of the distances they travel.
@buksi63426 жыл бұрын

Which ones JenniferHL3? The 378s on the Watford route will cascade to enhance NLL and WLL services. The really old clapped out ones on the Liverpool Street routes will probably be transferred to outside London, but not sure where.

As they seem to be considering to light rail electrification on the Valley lines, the Class 315's will not be needed and they are likely to be scrapped. The Class 317 may also be scrapped. 1 315 together with another 2 for spares may be retained for the Romford - Upminster shuttle.

How come Bombardier can manage a quite attractive front end for this and the class 345, in stark contrast to Siemens with the class 700?

I kinda like the design of the Desiro City. But I agree that the Aventras look cool.

The 700's look great, and sporty with a racing stylish front air splitter :D, the aventras look neat and sleek

The chin of 700's, 707's and 717's look like, when a child makes that lip before it's about to burst into tears. It's not the greatest looking train. I try to imagine it without the two prongs and I do think, it'd look so much better had they designed it without it. But having said that, I think the Southeastern City Beams look very good. I think, because of the combination of the dark colours and where they've placed the yellows, your eyes don't get drawn into those silly prongs and therefore, look so much more pleasing, aesthatically.

Why do they not have emergency evacuation doors at either end of the train? Does the whole overground system not have long tunnels?

Hence the name "overground"

They don't need the evacuation doors on the end because these are not planned to be used in single bore tunnels. The 378s do need front doors because of the tunnels under the Thames.

South London Railway Photography thanks, the only useful comment in this section...

The 378's have emergency exit doors at the front, because a small section on the ELL has tunnels which are narrow, hence why they have them.
