You don’t have to be retired, the criteria is 25 years after the release of your first studio record. Radiohead, Pearl Jam and Green Day are still around and they’re in. SP’s first LP was in ‘93 so they are eligible

Songwriter, agreed. Singer? Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, and of course, Freddie Mercury have entered the chat. LOL Too difficult to make that call but I'd say Billy is at least in the conversation. He's definitely the best singer of that time period still alive, though.

How are they not in the Hall Of Fame? Because Billy has been a guest on Alex Jones. That's why. He actually supports human freedom. Free speech. Free Will. Eventually. He Will get in. For being brave.
@kaitlynbree2122 Жыл бұрын
That means he definitely doesn’t care about being inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Things like that don’t matter when you’re older and have it figured out. Good for him. Makes me like him more.
@Trip4man2 ай бұрын
Dude... WTF. Being on Alex Jones has NOTHING to do with it! If they were to be on Hall of Fame they would've been wayyyyyyyyyyyyy before Alex Jones appeared! It's because the Smashing Pumpkins sound is not exactly pleasant to the ear. THAT'S WHY! They did a good album and it was downhill ever since! They did that Marilyn Manson thing... They had a style... And then changed it to a electronic beatbox bs. Marilyn Mason was provocative, deep and philosophical. Ever since he turned into that electronic commercial sex grabbing thing.... It just lost it's value. It's typical, superficial and mundane. I've tried to convince manyyyyyyyyy people into Smashing Pumpkins and they all said the same things... Too melancholic, too much distortion, not my style, I don't like his voice, too complex, etcetcetc. Smashing Pumpkins is not for EVERYONE. Billy is too complex for the average listeners. And he falls a LOT into that sentimental stuff. EVERYBODYYYY knows... Dude you make 1 or 2 ballads and that's it!! Don't make one every other song!! People at that time wanted ROCK you know... Something happy, violent, jumpy, edgy... Which Nirvana did EXACTLY and they got alllllll the fame. Even though it was only ONE album. And Nirvana is wayyyyyy more.... "Accessible" to people... It's 1 or 2 guitars, heavy drums (Kiss style) and an iconic voice. You make some catchy songs... Doesn't need to be Beethoven complex... And that's IT. The most beloved songs from Smashing Pumpkins FOLLOW that formula!!!

The best song from probably the best album of all time - back when recording artists were allowed to be complicated because the love for their music was simple
@cablecutter126 ай бұрын
Best song is a bold claim, though I do love this song. Too many bests on that album to name a single best IMHO. Thru the eyes of Ruby, In the arms of sleep, Porcelina of the vast oceans, 33, and 1979 are all at least equally up there to name just a few. I think it would probably be easier and quicker to just name the less exceptional songs: .... Done. That WAS easier!

I fear that I am ordinary just like everyone To lie here and die among the sorrows Adrift among the days For everything I ever said And everything I've ever done is gone and dead As all things must surely have to end And great loves will one day have to part I know that I am meant for this world My life has been extraordinary Blessed and cursed and won Time heals but I'm forever broken By and by the way Have you ever heard the words I'm singing in these songs? It's for the girl I've loved all along Can a taste of love be so wrong As all things must surely have to end And great loves will one day have to part I know that I am meant for this world And in my mind as I was floating Far above the clouds Some children laughed I'd fall for certain For thinking that I'd last forever But I knew exactly where I was And I knew the meaning of it all And I knew the distance to the sun And I knew the echo that is love And I knew the secrets in your spires And I knew the emptiness of youth And I knew the solitude of heart And I knew the murmurs of the soul And the world is drawn into your hands And the world is etched upon your heart And the world so hard to understand Is the world your can't live without And I knew the silence of the world

I think I found a new favorite Pumpkins song! Wow! If you were unfortunate to experience neglect and isolation as a child then you know just how tragic the cosequences are as an adult in forming relationships. You Cling on so tightly because anything is better than being alone again. You hold on dearly feeling, "Happiness", The trouble comes as you build up this emotional tab that one day must be paid. So, You end up basically with two speeds of relating to others, you either are smothering in intimacy or you cut bait and run feeling stupid for ever thinking the other person cared about you at all. "I knew the silence of the world" . Take a bow Bill, I hear you!!!!
