I'm Cape Verdean and I must say, great job! There are some little mistakes but, in general, you nailed it! For instance, Cape Verde does not have only 3 volcanoes. The islands are of volcanic origin, therefore, almost every mountain is a volcano. Extinct ones but still volcanoes. Those figures in "ethnicity" were data used by the Portuguese in the colonial period. They are not accurate and since the independence there hasn't been any statistics about races. I mean, come on! In a country like Cape Verde how can you know exactly if a person is black, white or mestiço? The Guinea-Bissau Creole is indeed similar to Cape Verdean Creole (kinda Portuguese and Spanish are similiar). The culture... mmm... no that much. But Cape Verde was in fact the principal country to help Guinea-Bissau in the political turmoil in the 90's. Once again, congrats!

In France, the most famous Capeverdian national was the singer Cesaria Evora. She was probably the biggest name in what France usually calls "musique du monde", which is a metagenre regrouping pretty much every "exotic" music that is seldom if ever performed by actual French people.

Hey, so I absolutely love this vid & it's undoubtedly my favorite vid about CV. But being Cape Verdean myself, I think i'm obligated to inform you that it's probably not best you refer to the country or its inhabitants as "Halfrican". I totally get what you're getting at & that you mean nothing malicious whatsoever. It's just that Cape verde is part of Africa so for that reason alone, its inhabitants should be referred to as African. Yes, we're a mixed race nation & I love & am proud to be a Cape Verdean but as you mentioned, most of us borrow alot of cultural traditions from portugal. What's little known is that unfortunately, many cape verdeans try ignoring their African heritage all together & in fact, will often say that they are just Portuguese. This form of self hate or denial, rather, is only reinforced by false terms like Halfrican. Hope you understand. Thanks again for the informative & powerful vid! Keep em coming, please!

Hi Christina! I'm Cape Verdean born & raised in Boston MA! I was curious how dense the population of cape verdeans are in Luxembourg & whether there is a scene out there that caters to the culture (I.e restaurants, shops, lounges etc.) Hope to hear back from you soon!

Just a little pedantic note (Sorry! Great video, btw): The variance in topography between the eastern and western halves of the archipelago is more attributable to geology, and not the Harmattan winds blowing off the Sahel and Sahara regions. The islands are volcanic, and they sprout out of a hotspot, then are pushed eastwards. This makes the islands in the eastern half significantly older, and therefore more weathered/eroded down. (Consider the case of the Appalachians, ancient mountains which are relatively modest in size now but used to be towering Himalaya-esque landforms millions of years ago.) This is why Sal, Boavista, and Maio are relatively flat, and the youngest islands, like Santo Antão and Brava, are very mountainous (and correspondingly greener). Certainly the eastward march of the islands into the face of the Harmattan winds is a small factor in this (the islands are 400km of the coast of the continent, so a, say, 15km distance between one island and another is not enough for wind to be the determining factor in topography differences), but geology is the prime mover in this positive feedback loop of dimunition.
