Fun fact about the fascination between French and Japanese: The movie "the last samourai" with Tom Cruise is in fact the story of the French Captain Jules Brunet. It's not just about today's 15-30 years old. Since Europe discovered Japan, France always had this interest in it. Take a look at how the french art community where influenced by Japan with the Japonaiserie or the Art nouveau. And it was like late 19th, early 20th, and definitly not from young adult or teenagers. A few years ago, former President Chirac had a particular taste for Japanese culture, he was always making sure there were sake in the Elysee. It's just a thing we have.

Love that you spoke about this sort of mutual cultural admiration between France and Japan. I'm late to the party, but fun anecdote : you know how sometimes people get tattoos of chinese/japanese characters without necessarily knowing what they mean ? Well, the reverse kind of exists. Friend of mine spent a few months in Japan for an internship, and once stumbled across a house that had "fromage" (cheese) written in big letters on the front porch. I doubt anyone would write cheese on their porch out of their own free will... It's still possible to find the house on Google Maps' Street View to this day.

Much love from Romania because France and Romania were always relatively close friends and our capital, Bucharest is even called The little Paris, because it has some architecture similar to the one in Paris, and we were and still are a francophone country, as French is still taught in schools today

well technically the king of england who start the 100 war came from a french dynasty from Angers so the 100 hundred war was a war between two french dynasty over the same piece of pie (look the plantagenet dynasty), and i thought the alliance that length the most is the one between portugal and england ??
