The word Guinea comes from Guinea ,Conakry from the Susu tribe. the word “Guinee” means woman. when a group of Europeans arrived on the coast they meet some women washing clothes in an estuary. The woman Indicated to the man that they were woman. The Europeans misunderstood and thought the woman were referring to a geographic area; they subsequently used the word “Guinea” to describe coastal west Africa. ! PIN THIS !

2 year old comment but yeah this isn't true. The fact is we don't know for certain where the name Guinea came from. But we do know that some of the earliest recorded uses of the name come from north africans who were trading with europeans in the early 14th century. So it was most likely from the berber word for black people, aguinaou.
