Disappointing as raisons in a cookie), animals everywhere, paua necklaces, the beach and the whales and seals, and just letting the wind move my body. Personally as a New Zealander, I reckon you guys did better than most at not butchering our place names *for the most part*, a couple of things to point out would be that we call the North Island and South Island literally "The North Island" or "The South Island", also the big mountain chain of the North Island that goes from Wellington to Gisborne is called the Axial Ranges, Kaweka is one part of it. Imo there were probably a few cooler things to mention in the attractions like Coromandel or the longest place name from the start of the video, as well as all the comments I've seen about Taika Waititi. Overall great job of explaining our history and culture, one thing I noticed was missing was NZ's efforts in galipolli during WW1, which is kind of a big deal over here every ANZAC day. 9:55 I am an Aussie and the Kiwi dialect sounds nothing like ours. It is completely different. It’s one of the things us Aussies take the mick out of them for. Their pronunciation for six as “sux” always and fish and chips as “fush and chups” is always a source of great humour. However as an Aussie I love New Zealand to bits as they are just an amazing country with very few, if any, bad things about them.

@airuisheng16114 жыл бұрын
And Europeans voted Kiwis as the most understandable and likable English speakers. As an Australian, I am surprised to hear there were Kiwis in PNG during WWII they would have been airmen and sailors I think. I am aware that a Fijian regiment served in the NZL army and fought the Japanese later in the war. They defended NZL while the Kiwis were in the Middle East. Many Americans were also in NZL but killed more of their own than Japanese when sent to battle. The USAF continues the tradition by bombing allies around the world and has killed more Kiwis since the Vietnam War than the enemy. Americans in Melbourne engaged in terrible race-based battles every Friday night which are still talked about today.

When the Magna Carta was signed in 1215, and during most of Notre Dame Cathedral's construction, no humans lived in New Zealand. There's something existential about that... And meanwhile just a two-hour flight away in Australia, humans were living there before they were in Europe.
@nedisahonkey5 жыл бұрын
Not in love with your use of "existential" but I totally get what you're going for and it is very interesting to think about. I also like thinking the absolute cultural isolation of Aboriginal Tasmanians and other groups like them around the world. Imagine walking to a new land and then generations later having the sea rise so that your entire population is isolated for thousands for tens of thousands of years.
