I've did my Erasmus in Slovakia in Nitra and I totally loved it. Even thought Slovakia is very far away from Portugal (my country) I really felt the cultural similarities rather than the differences and I'll write them here cuz they are funny: -Both countries and its people lived on the shadow of big neighbour empires and countries (Portugal-Spain-UK/ (Czecho)Slovakia-Austria-Hungary) -Both countries are 'incredibly small' but with great morals and democratic values (some episodic events of corruption happen nonetheless). -Both Portuguese and Slovak compete to see who's the most alcoholic and who loves grandma the most (Amor de Mãe/Avó mais um copinho de bagaço, verde ou tinto Versus Babishka love drinking borovicka, sliboviza, hruskviza). -Both countries share an effort on the Preservation of the Nature. All the churches, mountains, trails, wildlife, and small cities deserve a to be known.
