I love how they tried to pronounce everything right sooooo I'll give how we say it in st.lucia pitons- pitors soufriere- soo free air cul-de-sac- cul di sac roseau- rose oh derek walcott- derik wall cut bexon- beck saw floats and bakes are slightly different; floats are puffy and bakes are more flat the national dish is just green fig/green banana and saltfish/salted fish not green fig salad which is another dish a vast majority of the island is black caribs/kalinago it's more like ay ay short used to express shock salop means nasty officially but is used as a swear along with hesalop and it's said more like hi hi hesalop we love dominica and martinique A LOT and thank you for talking about my tiny island

Around 14 minutes in, when talking about the buildings. That style of buildings in Australia is called a Queenslander House. Not only can they be converted into a two story house, but they can be left as a single for increased airflow in hotter times, while also keeping the house safe from flash flooding in the wet season. It makes sense to build them in a tropical place like the Caribbean.

@@Amelie-ij1oz this is heavily based on my opinion but there was much to gain from being part of commonwealth. I think of it this way. Britain, the mother nation and St. Lucia, the independent young adult. St. Lucia joined the other sibling countries in commonwealth and they benefit from each other. There is a great process to gaining absolute independence from Britain. Just look at how Barbados intends to become a republic. But the real question is ...would you leave what you are accustomed to for the unknown and without a plan? At the moment, I believe breaking ties with the commonwealth will negatively affect St. Lucia's economy. BTW if you wish to continue picking my brain u can reach me on Instagram @chern_goring

I enjoyed the video but let's point out that apart from the castries vf, castries souf, and castries GI highways, we do not have tracks that we hike and backpack on to get to other places. We have roads that we drive on. Admittedly some are much smaller than others but we have roads, not tracks

I traveled to St. Lucia with my dad a few years back. It was such an amazing trip! We spent most of our time in the Soufriere area. The hike to the top of Gros Piton was definitely a highlight. Glad you got to go and see this beautiful country yourself Barbs!

I went to one of these cruises about 5 years ago and st lucia was by far my favorite island. Superfriendly people and gorgeous geography and landscape, just driving around the country was incredible. There seemed to be secret little beach coves and on top of that a drive in volcano. Lovely place and probably my favorite country i’ve ever visited.

Actually there are some aspects of St Lucia which resembles Mauritius. Both were french and British colonies. Both were conveted by them for its strategic and key point position in their regions. Both have their own creole. Both have broadly same economic pillars.Both have same environmental issues. And other minor stuffs that ive noticed.

Yeah, saint Lucia day used to be the day of the December solstice (until it got displaced over the centuries because of the Julian calender's inaccuracy). Lucia comes from the Latin word for "light". Here in Portugal, a common saying is "St Lucia takes from the night and gives to the day" (it rhymes in Portuguese though).
