Bodow!!! And that’s how the term “bodow” was birthed.. the explosion of the volcano was described as a “bodow!”.. at the time people would help each other out and give away hand-me-down clothes and other items that can be used at a time of dire need and so the stuff given away was termed “bodow”... I’m a Vincentian... trust me.

Every Caribbean country that speaks any Creole: ITS DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER! WE SWEAR!!
@Patti3264 жыл бұрын

@derrickthewhite14 жыл бұрын
They are different. If you can't tell a difference you probably didn't learn their dialect well enough, possibly because they leaned into international English because you were around. Or you didn't actually learn its sound, and just heard a few minutes of it. Some places are more different than others. Jamaica is probably the best known English creole from the Caribbean, and its starkly different from the stuff you hear in the eastern Caribbean, which is most of the other creoles. I am (or was, its been a while) familiar with the talk from St. Vincent, Trinidad, and Georgetown Guyana (Guyana has multiple dialects), and Jamaican always sounds weird and foreign to me.
@Patti3264 жыл бұрын
@@derrickthewhite1 I get that a lot from mostly East Caribbean folk. They said I talk funny whenever I speak my Patois.
@KiraDaBeastNY4 жыл бұрын
@@Patti326 It is different but not that much, least not to me. Funny story though. My parents are Grenadian, and I grew up in an area with a shitload of Caribbean people, and used to go to Grenada all the time. Whenever people would switch to "English Creole", I understand it like regular english. One day, I'm having a conversation with my Jamaican friend whose speaking patois, and my 100% American friend is looking back and forth between me and my Jamaican friend all confused before asking "You can understand him?" Me: Wait, you don't understand him? American friend: No. Like at all. And that was the day I found out non Caribbean people don't really understand patois/english creole whatever ya wanna call it.

That water shortage issue is common throughout the Caribbean, and I would assume logically most small island nations elsewhere in the world. My dad lived and worked in Puerto Rico for a while. One summer after a drought failed to provide enough water for the reservoir that the whole San Juan metro area depends on, they had to cut off water to even and odd addresses on alternating days to ration what little supply that there was. Oddly enough, the hotels and tourist facilities could use water all week, but as for the locals themselves? Tough. No agua for you! Puerto Rico is a fascinating place, and like most of the Caribbean, beautiful country. But it is not without its challenges.

@sion84 жыл бұрын
You want to know something funny? The Miskito coast was actually under New Granada's jurisdiction (today's Colombia) during colonial times, so it didn't form part of any of them until modern times.
@FairyCRat4 жыл бұрын
@@sion8 I thought it was a British colony. Did the British also have Colombia at the time?
@sion84 жыл бұрын
@@FairyCRat Its complicated, but suffice to say the Miskito Coast was of heavy interest to the English/British while claimed by Spain, however for a long time it wasn't under their control because of how wild it was and the natives were of particular difficulty to conquer for the Spaniards. However, the Captaincy General of Guatemala (most of today's Central America) always wanted it, but because of circumstance the city of Cartagena of the Indies in the Viceroyalty of New Granada was the best able to govern it because it was able to sent ships there rather quickly. The British for their part supported a puppet kingdom called the Miskito Kingdom, which favor British interest, for obvious reasons. Was it in existence at that very time? I'm not too sure. But the Spaniard obviously never really led that kingdom thrive in any way since it was a British creation for the most part. As for the British ever controlling New Granada? No, never. But they did try many times to, never successful in any way. Definitely read about it, it is fascinating history.
