As an iraqi i have alot ALOT of syrian friends and i love syrians to death Also iraqi people like syrians and in the problems syria has faced in 2011 iraqis have felt sympathy as they went to very similar problems in 2003 Some iraqis who live in mosul speak in a syrian alike accent its closer to syria than iraqi accent And in syria dair al zour they speak in a more iraqi accent than the common syrian accent We share foods together that have their diffrences Syrians in iraq tend to work more as waiters and sellers as they are more soft hearted and less aggresive they feel more welcoming and helping , not that iraqis are aggresive we are also known to be the most generous and giving people but iraqi people are known to be tougher around the edges unlike most syrians We love syrians and they love us and in that we are blessed 🇮🇶❤️🇸🇾

10:00 The thing about Damascus steel isn't that we don't know how to replicate it, it's that we don't know how they possibly did it back then. Long story short, smith's in Damascus had wootz steel ingots, which has a very high carbon content, imported from India and then they would liquify the steel to get rid of the impurities even further and get as much pure steel as possible. We've actually been able to make far better steel for a long while (since at least 1751 when Benjamin Huntsman created crucible steel) but we just don't quite understand how the Damascus smiths were able to completely melt steel all the way back in 900 AD and create such a pure form of steel at the time.

Thank you for breaking it down, since I've read it 30 years ago in a children book, I couldn't figure out how it could be that they produced a better material than the current industry can do. So they didn't. Damascus _looking_ steel is a popular way to produce knives nowadays too, as I can see in many shops.

That's really interesting, you might have incarnated here from Sirus, it's the brightest solar system that we can see at night, and if you see it, you can distinguish it by it's color flashing features and how bright it is. it also looks like a Merkabah, or a Tetrahedron. Anyway there's this belief that very special people with specific purposes here incarnated on earth from solar systems around and Sirus is one of them, in fact they are called "Sirians Starseeds". i was born and lived in Damascus, and can't wait for the right time to go back once the infrastructure changes.

Same here. I live in Europe and have East Asian parents. For some reason, i clicked with Syrian food immediately, i like the clothing style, the music, and somehow Syrians don’t seem foreign to me. No wonder, i ended up with a Syrian boyfriend, i liked the way he thought, felt and acted (reserved on the outside, but behind closed doors warm, passionate, dramatic, family-oriented), the way he treated me (he spoiled me, protected me, but also gave me freedom). Just two months ago, i traveled to Spain. Knowing that I would be away from my home for a week, the last meal i consumed had to be Syrian (fatteh), and when i came back from Spain, first thing i did was not go home, but with all my luggage i went to a restaurant and ordered shawarma. My love for Syria is crazy. About Iraq: every person from Iraq i‘ve ever met was an extremely cool person.

in the seljukian invasion of the byzantine empire, the armenian territorials were heavily overrun and the armenian christians, who didnt submitted to foreign rule were resettled by the emperor into the small area, that remained in power for them. the area between turkey and syrian today, huge parts of Edessa. it was called the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia and was heavily supported by the crusades. In fact all meaningful actions of the crusaders were about this little Armenia and not the idiotic attempt to create a kingdom of Jerusalem. The whole concept didn't worked out, because the catholic crusaders were not acceptance to work under orthodox expand of these areas, giving orthodox probyzantine and armenian nobles actual areas back and rather wanted to create catholic states. There were some connections, like Balduin, first king of Jerusalem married an Armenian lady, but even this marriage was made irrelevant, after the kingdom got a strong claim on Antiochia and Edessa. So in some sense the crusade was more the destruction of these pro-orthodox Christian states, that survived the Seljukian invasion, than an actual good move for Christianity. Of course all European historians were magical disinterest about this effect of the crusades. So most Europeans don't even know about these Armenian areas.

Don't want to get involved with the politics of Syria - but I've been to Damascus, twice, to attend two space technology conferences in 2006; before it all kicked off. I have to say, I absolutely loved my two visits. The people were incredibly lovely and hospitable. I personally found Syria to by my favourite country; and I've been to Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Suda, Lebanon, Jordan, Qatar and the UAE. I especially loved the fact that for one excursion, we visited an area in the Anti Lebanon mountains where they still speak Aramaic and in the Church's, the Father recited the Lord's Prayer in its original mother tongue. Even as a Muslim, I found it to be mystical.

I went to Syria in 2008. It was an experience I'll forever hold dearly in my heart. I randomly ended up staying with a family in Daraa. They treated me like a king. Yeah, it's what Keith was mentioning in the music section, with the Echoes from Ugarit piece which is a modern cover of (a guess at) what the song would've been. (I say "a guess at" because we have the sheet music but aren't 100% sure how to read its notation.) The Civilization series also uses two different scholars' interpretations of the sheet music for the themes of Carthage in Civ 5 and Phoenicia in Civ 6.
