I'm Maldivian but I have never seen that instrument ever in my life 😂 I'm unsure if it's wrong or not but in my knowledge Boduberu (big drum) is our traditional instrument. I totally loved this video was fun to watch and very informative! ❤

bulbul trang was used alot back in the day. it's called naru kotti in dhivehi. naifaru dhohoko and jaimu dhonkamana used it.

My wife and I stayed at Maafushi island where locals live for our honeymoon and went on some tours. It was nice seeing how the actual life is like while enjoying our tourist life. As a Muslim I visited the mosques on the island and was warmly welcome there.

A few notes about this episode, since I’ve been to the Maldives: -in 2009 the government allowed the locals to open guesthouses, so it’s not all resorts. I stayed in one as a backpacker -getting around isn’t that hard, just time consuming. There are cheap ferries from Male to the various atolls -you didn’t mention their unique type of hammock

Ranil Abeyasinghe we love you guys 🇱🇰❤️🇲🇻I’ve personally been to Colombo almost a dozen times you have a beautiful and fertile country...I’ve been when the Tamil ealam was a real threat and I’m glad it’s been resolved so srilanka can flourish again...we aren’t sympathetic to the Tamil ealam because they invaded us in the 1980s and Rajiv Gandhi’s got rid of them for us and poor fellow was murdered by them..rip :( anywho I think the closeness between the countries is because that’s where most of us are decendant from Buddhist settlers from who settled Maldives thousands of years ago and their descendants converted to Islam but even millennia of separation and difference in religion can’t tear our bond :’) bffs forever ❤️❤️

Male actually in Dhivehi has a meaning too lol. It means "big blood". It's because of the large pool of blood formed by people cutting fish on the beach when Maldives was first inhabited.

Yes actually i was hoping you’d say Sri lanka is the best friend of the Maldives. There are so many Maldivians here now, many of whom come as short term residents, as well as those who come for work, higher education etc. And yes, the languages are similar too :) After they became super famous as a holiday destination and developed their economy, Maldivians I think have a higher per capita gdp than Sri lankans too. XD I guess we can learn a lot from our small neighbour. Also a lot of their diplomatic missions to other states are located in Sri Lanka too 😇 The ties run deep, and hopefully stay strong for years to come! (btw can’t wait for the Sri Lanka episode!!!)

Only fact that you got wrong was about the bulbul tarang instrument. Thats an indian instrument which we never really used that much. Although a maldivian female singer in the late 19th century did make and use her own version of the instrument.
