Actually Nicaraguans are not the only ones who don't pronounce their d's and s's, we (Chileans), Argentinians, and many other countries from the Caribbean omit those phonemes as well. People say my accent is one of the most incomprehensible just because we say either "weá", "weón", "culiáo", or "conchetumare" per three words, apart from some notable intonation and pronunciation differences. In fact, the phrase "oh wn, el wn wn, wn" makes sense in Chile.

The real name is "Nican Atl Nahuac", which means "Here Surrounded by Water" named by Nahuatl and last point of the Nahuas. The Nicaraos came from the Pipil tribe that came from the Nahuatl which are the Aztecs. Mayans came also, built settlements as well as the Chibchas, Caribs from the south and Colombia. The Mayans named an specific mount corridor "Amerrique" (land of the wind) with plenty of gold in it that caught Columbus and Vespucci's eye, later became a point of reference and Vespucci changed his name from Alberto to Amerigo to later rumors of gold in Europe that came from the Mount Amerrique on the Amerrisque corridor located in Nicaragua´s back bone to later the point of reference came know as America in French Ports at that time according to various authors.

Classic dishes: Gallo Pinto *Costa Rica watches closely and with anger*
@youtubecommentreview46425 жыл бұрын
Gallo pinto or gallopinto is a traditional dish of Nicaragua and Costa Rica, consisting of rice and beans as a base. Gallo pinto has a long history and is important to various Latin American cultures. The beans in gallo pinto are quickly cooked until the juice is almost consumed, then combined with readied rice, and other ingredients such as cooked bell peppers, chopped onions, and garlic.

@@youtubecommentreview4642 I agree. There is debate about which country coined that dish's name. There is no "Gallo" in Gallo pinto per se. So for a non-Costa Rican/ Nicaraguan person ordering something that may have chicken in its name, is grossly a misnomer. is like saying "French Fries" but you get deep fried Cucumber Slices German Style!

Tip Toe what colour would that be? Im talking about gallo pinto for its namesake because it has the word “gallo” in it. It is disappointed to a non-central American because you don’t get any “rooster” at all. It is a veggie dish.

I was 18 years old and doing research in Nicaragua in Managua when the Earthquake hit that caused much death and destruction. Howard Hughes was living there at the time in the Penthouse of the Intercontinental Hotel which looked like a pyramid with a boxcar on top. He flew in bulldozers and earth moving equipment for relief work with one requirement. His plane had to be the first one to leave the Airport . We drove out and flew home from Honduras. Quite the adventure !

After US objections, UN Security Council and General Assembly sided again with Nicaragua, but US has still not paid up. For the full story, search "Nicaragua V United States"

The 1979 revolution was actually a coup d etat against a regime that was making the country rich. That overthrow of government was illegal and backed by large neighboring countries that hate the US. The junta of the 1980s was a criminal organization just like now Daniel Ortega has shown.

Is not technically land locked since the San Juan river connects the Lake Nicaragua to the Atlantic ocean, that's how the sharks ended up in the lake making their way through the San Juan river to the lake and pirates used it as a entrance to raid cities like Granada in the past.
