The whole time you guys were on Jamestown I was screaming in my head, "VIRGINIA!"
@ins1981Lest Жыл бұрын
The first English settlement on US soil was actually Roanoke, North Carolina, founded in 1585. But they famously vanished under mysterious circumstances; no one knows exactly what happened to them. Jamestown came after in 1607 and is the first permanent English settlement in the US. Pilgrims later game in 1620.

Thank you for clarifying this. Too many people don’t learn true history in school.

On the Interstate system, signage will point you toward the next notable city. If you are in Savannah and saw a sign for Interstate 16 to Macon, it's simply telling you that you are heading west in the direction of Macon. Also for that one, the land was flat and there were palm trees. Those are clues that you are coastal.

Savannah was an important city early on in US history. It and Charleston (SC), which are two hours apart, are considered the two most beautiful cities in America. Both are worth visiting, lots of history.

yup, Savannah is listed as the 4th most beautiful and Charleston as the 5th

The first English settlement was in Virginia... Virginia is full of history Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg. All early settlements.

Valiant effort. But a tough one for non Americans. Jamestown Virginia and Valley Forge Pennsylvania are well known to many Americans. And Savanah Georgia steeped in history for several reasons, including churches and the Underground Railroad. Well done with NYC and DC.

Jamestown was the first English settlement. What you saw was the fort where they first lived until they started building houses and expanding out. Valley Forge is a famous site from the American Revolution. Savannah was one of only a few cities in the south that were not burned down during General Sherman's scorched earth campaign during the civil war.

The sign was telling you that Interstate 16 will take you to the next large city -- which is Macon (rhymes with bacon).

I think a lot of Europeans don't realize how far apart many American cities are. Americans know if they see a city name with an arrow pointing in a direction, that city could be anywhere from 15 to 200 miles away. Here in OKC we have signs pointing to Little Rock and Amarillo, each of which is a five hour long drive in opposite directions.

Maybe you were thinking of Johnstown, Pa instead of Jamestown in Virginia? Not sure what was so famous about the Savannah, Ga site.

I believe it has to do with the underground railroad. But that's just an uneducated guess based off the name if the site that they read off the map.

Might have something to do with the "underground railroad" was not a reral railroad but a secret society that helped escaped slaves to get to the north to free states.

No self-respecting American would ever say "May-con." It's MAKEn. Kind of like bacon. Also, if you're going to do puzzles like these you need to study a bit more American history. Valley Forge was where the American troops suffered an extremely harsh winter, nearly freezing and starving losing thousands of men, the winter of 1777. Also, the Jamestown thing totally baffled you all, even to the point of while you realized it was an early settlement, you still kept staying inland. All the early settlements were coastal.

One of the reasons for playing this game is learning about other places-just like when Americans are clueless about places in Europe, Asia, and the rest of the world. It is supposed to be fun and challenging. No one is going to study a country’s history in order to play this game. Lighten up please.
