So glad to hear such a positive report about the conference. May the collegiality expressed carry well beyond the closed doors of the Penrose.

My friend is a DNA/PCR research scientist and I'm always stunned by the extent to which academics end up hoarding information and ignoring public interest/discourse. I know you're busy, but I think people receiving institutional support should be obliged to acquire skills that allow them to disseminate their work to laypeople, routinely, as part of their training. What's the point of developing information, statistics, mapping, narratives etc if only 23 people in the whole world know about it? The process of collaborative debate and onboarding data into contentious models should be public; it would build trust in how scientific models are arrived at, and counter conspiracy theory bullshit. As demonstrated in your series, laypeople can follow your narratives and even have stuff to contribute too. Thanks again Nick for realising this as deeply as you have and prodding your colleagues to share more effectively.

Nick, thank you for taking the time to provide us with this summary to date! I know you will, but try not to worry about the little glitches in the stream, your message and reporting are coming through 5x5! I'm happy for you, your diligence and care for the science of Geology is really showing signs of positive impact in the formal Geology profession, awesome! One idea for you: see if you can schedule a follow up stream with some of the folks there a couple weeks after the conference is over. Maybe that will give folks time to process and recover, and then give them an outlet to share what they thought of the overall conference and it's possible future impact on the Baja-BC models. Take care and keep having fun! Love you!

You are leading us toward a needed new way of doing science, Nick. I love this stuff! I also love the cabin that you are staying in. Is that cedar on the walls! I wish I could be there and listen in to all these panels and talks.

I'm so glad you are actually enjoying the intellectual communication time at the Penrose, Nick!!😄 I'm also very glad that most of attendees of the Penrose conference, which are geology experties from various backgrounds, are sufficiently communicating and sharing ideas among them moving forward for the geology theme this conference has set out for them to discuss... Keep us posted!💗💫

Nick hi from UK, just a thought on the video, last week I noticed the breeze moving the leaves caused pixelation, then todays (Monday) the rain and light outside of the cabin caused the same effect, also you mentioned in the cabin, the lights were fluorescent, they flicker, in the uk it’s 50hz, I suspect (don’t know) but it may be your cameras auto focus sensitivity, but in all honesty, please don’t stop doing what your doing just roll with it. Very best for the future. And huge thanks.

Oh to hear some of the expert discussions of this and that involving any new information on all things that were presented! Better than reading a paper on any given subject. Can wait for your allowed filming at Penrose. Great Livestream ! Steve

I think the poor video quality from the house was a compression issue, not a signal issue. All those moving leaves had to be rendered over and over again, so could not be compressed like normal, non-changing background. Ask the video guys about video compression... that'll clear up the confusion.
@dalehagglund
@dalehagglund Жыл бұрын
This is definitely a possibility. I'm no expert in video compression, but a significant feature of many is identifying unchanged blocks (or blocks that have moved) and the absence of blocks like that really increases bandwidth requirements.

I dont think moving the camera is the main problem. At the start and at the end, it worked fine. It might be mainly the rain interference?

If baja was rotated/conveyed via continental conveyance WSW to its present @30 deg. N. latitude from its @90MA 40 deg. N. latitude, wouldn’t the paleomag findings be from @10 deg. latitude further South, @Jalisco, MX.?

No Chalkboards? OK, nice breakdown and oversight/report. Thank you. One thing made me laugh. The Film "Wayne's World" 1992, showing your "pass" for the event reminded me of both Wayne and Garth showing their backstage passes with prowess for the Alice cooper concert in the film. As usual sir, keep up the good work, the World is still watching you. Additional again. Flat Slab/Rocky Mountains. They all still agree? That means that they will not change their ideas.,Karin Sigloch & Mitch Mihalynuk i hope i spelled that correct, They have proved this wrong due to "something" Tomography.. So why does this "Flat Slab" idea still exist when there is now no proven evidence for it?

Nick I would like to know, How non-Baja BC theorist reconcile the Paleo Mag data. I understand that Paleo Mag is inconsistent with their pet theories but if they believe and utilize Paleo Mag data for other things - they must see the hypocrisy in this- so they should be able to verbalize why the Paleo Mag data is wrong or at least do their own Paleo Mag or analysis of the Paleo Mag to prove it is wrong.

It's not everyday you have to fight with a tropical storm in Idaho. Hopefully on its way out it'll lhelp put out some of the fires up here. My daughter and SIL are in Palm Springs and they arrived just in time for Hilary's arrival. They're now landlocked for a couple days.

@@janicemartin1580 So far, so good. Their hotel is three blocks from downtown, 3 blocks from the Forever Marilyn exhibit. They're high & dry -- BUT....they can't take any excursions out of town coz I-10 is closed from Cabazon to Thousand Palms. The bulk of the flooding was on the south side of town -- no surprise there; you've got Taquitz River and Palm Canyon converging at the same channel. But based on what I've seen the rest of town is in pretty good shape.

Rain interference is called attenuation. It can affect the link between the satellite and the dish. There can also be attenuation between your devices and your router.
