Klaus Dodds gives us a high-level overview of the field of Geopolitics, using 10 key images, and a case study on the Arctic to illustrate his points. From historical maps to James Bond films to the rhetoric of political leaders, he considers why, for a full understanding of contemporary global politics, it is essential to be geopolitical.
Klaus Dodds is Professor of Geopolitics at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he is also Director of the Politics & Environment Research Group. He is the author of Geopolitics: A Very Short Introduction.

This "expert" on the artic called it a "remote place devoid of natural resources" which couldn't be more wrong. The artic is not some symbolic place where you plant a flag for a dick measuring competition, it's full of oil and natural gas and is also a crucial sea route for military and economic purposes (connecting China and Northern Europe for example) with the melting of ice caps

This is not geopolitics. This is international law. He is portraying geopolitics as almost exclusively about symbolic lines and gestures, alongside perceptions held by the masses. This is only one dimension - he has entirely (except for briefly discussing Mackinder for credibility-sake) ignored geostrategy. As well, the masses only shape the "grand chessboard" of geopolitics, while elites are the primary middlemen between the masses and geostrategy.

I see this is 3 years old and you're unlikely to reply, but in my experience, it's states and corporations who 'play' geopolitics. When consent is needed it is manufactured by the media (see Iraq war and current one-sided reporting of Ukraine etc.) firstly, then acted upon. Also, look at the changing reporting of China in our media over the last few years. It's interesting to see the new enemy being manufactured in real time, though the long term implications are quite terrifying, with many USA polits and talking heads saying perfectly calmly that America's next major war will be with China, in the coming decades.

Mr Klause, concerning last question and answer about Moldova, I would say mr Kissenger will disagree with you about yoir point of better joining NATO for East European country. Last Davos he told about Ukraine advised to be a buffer zone rather then a frontier of NATO and EU. Hope, now you can see why.

A group from an Indian Tribe came down to Montreal in 71 on finding out the Canadian Government innded to put a dam in that must flood their living & hunting grounds.. We managed to contact them to sympathetic lawyers who tried to help represent them. This tribe were certanly not oppresed or held down by hundreds of years of terror. They were a very happy tribe. But were unaware of how our societies work. They needed to leave four or five of their tribe to work with these lawyers & sympathetic journalists we knew or even politicians. But they simply buggered off laughing in great good humour. I fear and I'm almost sure their living & hunting grounds are now flooded over.

Geopolitics is a new world order term and it's actually a cover for eugenics. "politics, esp. international relations, as influenced by geographical factors. the study of politics of this type." ethnos ‘nation.’ Latin ambiguus ‘doubtful’ (from ambigere ‘waver, go around,’ from ambi- ‘both ways’ + agere ‘to drive’ )

I like the idea of a cosmopolitan humanity The complex reality can never be solved until we return to acknowledge the sacred rights of the American natives to be rejuvenated , blessed and honoured. We are a weak, cowardly and hypocritical people, given to préjudice against China, well, neratioearlyo from the speaker from t ntheloor f on mahetge floor. Exactly, the China -Laos co-operation is a clear example of China stretching out a good neighbourly hand from China eg. the gift of a HS train and the construction of a station - of tremendous use to Laotians but that man from the floorb is all too ready to cast China in the black.

I'd like to share the real genius of XiJinPing in sharing his mission vision of The Belt and Road with the global world in Davos when he talked about China opening up. I was sad to hear you nearly fallen to making negative opinion about Xi's Belt n Road having 6 routes. Xi and the Chinese had %explored trade routes geo- economically since the12century. It's sad to hear of your suspicions about Xi JinPing's BELT And Road ... if you know China well, picture Xi, the great mariner and leader for global trade . Xi looks at the massive China with trade routes spreading from Beijing, Xian, Urumqi, Shanghai and Xiamen... He sees many rich states which will find trade routes from the Chinese capitals and states with huge amounts of goods and food, surpluses which can be traded if they build routes to join states and countries. E.g. from Beijing, he can make a road through the central Asian states, Tajikistan, from Xian to Kazakhstan...from Xiamen with so much tea through the South China Sea , Malacca Straits... from SHANGHAI towards Korea, Japan and Australia NZ, from Xi an through Pakistan, Iran etc.... these routes are manned by trains, ships, planes etc.. if we look at the stans stares of Central Asia, we can see how a train running from China through Central Asia to reach Dortmund ,Germany....

M'sheArt2 indeed thanks for the green agenda link. I liked these. "It's not 2,500 people offering their consensus, I participated in that. Each person who is an author writes one or two pages in conjunction with someone else. They travel around the world several times a year for several years to write it and the summary for policymakers has the input of a handful of scientists, but ultimately, it is written by representatives of governments, and of environmental organizations, each pushing their own agenda." - MIT's Professor of Atmospheric Science Dr. Richard Lindzen on the IPCC report. Czech President Klaus stated “It is not fair to refer to the UN panel as a group of scientists. The IPCC is not a scientific institution. It's a political body, a sort of non-government organization of green flavour. It's neither a forum of neutral scientists nor a balanced group of scientists. These people are politicized scientists, and UN bureaucrats, who arrive there with a one-sided opinion and a one-sided assignment."
