Geordie Greep - the only man on earth who can impersonate Robert Fripp's fingers and Adrian Belew's mouth simultaneously. Also, he seems to be leaning even deeper into that half-parodic, half-serious embrace of straightahead jazz he did with Black Midi - a sort of Frank Zappa approach, perhaps, where he genuinely loves jazz but can't resist making fun of its conventions.
@Miguel-m1j9mАй бұрын
his tone is more like Scott walker than Belew
@BaribrotzerАй бұрын
@@Miguel-m1j9m Good point. Not Scott's range - Geordie's a tenor rather than a baritone - but his sound, his phrasing, and his penchant for juxtaposing a crooner's delivery with utterly crazy songs and lyrics.

@CoopStewy7 ай бұрын
I think this is just the progression greep is going towards, a lot of his current taste (from twitter) seems to be a lot of classical singers and jazz stuffs but who do I know I don’t know the guy he definitely always liked jazz
@J.A21337 ай бұрын
@@CoopStewy didn't argue with that. I was just thinking about that because black midi's last tour they defaulted back to their schlag stage setup (2 guitars instead of keys) and played heavier versions of the hellfire and cavalcade songs. Greep clearly is a jazz guy yeah true

Regarding all the rumours about Black Midi breaking up, I personally find it very hard to believe there'd be any genuine bad blood between any of the members - if there is they've certainly been real fucking good at hiding it. But when you consider the kind of musicians that they are it makes a lot more sense to me that they simply wanna put Black Midi as a project on hold for a little while and do side quests like this (I mean their touring schedule from 2021-2023 was absolutely relentless, any band would probably wanna take a good year off after a run like that). My theory is that they want to emphasize "Black Midi New Road" (maybe including HMLTD as well considering Shank) as a collective of musicians who do side projects with each other and other people in addition to the main two projects (can you tell I'm still holding out hope for a full Black Midi New Road collab album lol). But regardless of whether Black Midi is done or not, we can be sure whatever stuff Geordie and Cam put out with these side projects will be amazing, and to me that's really all that matters. Edit 12/08/2024: Well don't I look like a chump now lmao. Guess we're never gonna get that Black Midi New Road collab album. Granted, it's still highly likely that _members_ of BM and BCNR might collaborate on an album or two in the future, but since BM as a band are no more, the ultimate dream of an album by a 9-piece BMNR can safely be put to bed. Goodnight sweet prince
