I mean it’s a story from the perspective of a dude who is a regular at a bar and apparently slays a lot of tang. But a new woman comes in and it’s no longer just about him having sex with a woman. He’s absolutely smitten, and intrigued, and prematurely IN LOVE with this woman’s essence the moment she comes in the bar. People seem to be comparing this to actual rape and it’s so fucking insane

@@drewlichty8091 Call me a hater but fantano never struck me as someone to be taken seriously. This whole community and their attitude towards music repels me, it's so chronically online and the way they talk is hyperreal. Ik this is not necessarily a bad thing but fantano seems to me like a magazine for music discussion, it's all about tastemaking, fashion and gossips rather than social and cultural commentary and analysis.

Very very rare occasion that I find a fade out fitted perfectly. The ongoing and continuous nature of the relationship and doing it all again next week and the week after that. it’s as if it trails off without being concluded as his sad character continues doin this whether we are here to hear it or not.

It’s always struck me a s strange how often songs will fade out whilst actually picking up pace instrumentally. Like what is it meant to convey? A sense that there’s more but you’ll have to wait and see it live? A suggestion of its indefinite continuation? Or just a very easy way to finish a song? Nails do fades very well with the last tracks of each of their albums having the last riff crawl into obscurity

someone here said it’s corny but it’s not just corny it’s also desperate. i’m a sex worker. so this song really like hit me in a place i didn’t expect it to. never really listened to black midi the song was just recommended to me on my youtube feed. there is a specific kind of client that has so much pain and longing inside him, but instead of facing that pain and interrogating its origin, it’s so much that the client needs allllllll these little specific little things to happen and part of it is control but really it’s about a fantasy world he has constructed and hides inside where he is finally worthy of love. i think greep (is that his name i hope?) really effectively used music to describe this frantic world. especially at the end when the pain starts to really become apparent in its heartbreaking beauty.

for anyone who has listened to the magician it's noticeable that this will be a theme on the album. "the man who pays his wife £200 to have sex" and the whole i've been hiding from my mistress section. its about self worth, the magician does his disappearing act because he doesnt feel valued enough to be loved. very poignant stuff from greep.

@@americomolina2722 I’m aware of that, but Geordie is obviously the writer and director, so to speak. The only context I know him from is his work in Black Midi so naturally I think of their work when I hear him playing a riff like this. I don’t think it’s bad by any means, I just think that Black Midi is a special group with amazing chemistry and Geordie’s work will probably always shine more when he’s working with them. I love the chaos and dissonance they bring. I do hope I’m wrong about that, though. Ofc this is just my opinion

This vehement distain for anything containing suggestive or odd themes dealing with universally unaccepted language or behaviors is annoying as fuck. Eat-men-eat says the word f@gg0t? Bad song, gross, bigoted. Nevermind the fact that the man being the lyrics and vocals is homosexual. Holy, holy deals with a narcissistic, controlling man paying for fake sexual gratification from a woman at a bar (although he is oddly respectful though it's not apparent)? Same thing. Obviously chat can, and does, have bad takes.. but the vehement denial of this track sounding like musical theatre, or even a Disney song, is hilarious. That's not necessarily a bad thing y'all, stop being so defensive. It does sound like that at many points, and it slaps!

It’s like the point of the song and what makes it so subversive, chat misunderstands it (theatre kid core 🤓) and the comments deny it.

On top of all of this. Once you move past the veneer of the character, And how humorous it is. The song becomes so sad and desperate. People have no ability to feel even a shred of empathy for anyone slightly different.

Someone in the chat mentioned "Messages from the Stars" and I never noticed it before but it definitely sounds similar at the start. That being said I cannot fathom listening to this song and not immediately recognizing it as an all-time banger

Songs like Augmented 4ths, Dangerous Liaisons and this are even better when you follow the story and try to understand the kind of characters aren't supposed to be charming. Even the fade at the end makes sense because of the lyrics
