Your help sort me out. The bottom thread was looking flat and top thread was visible at the bottom. Proper tension settings that you described here helped me. Top tension screw does the job well. What i learnt by trying and trying is that the top thread have to be too tight, which seems odd at first. But once it is set to the proper tension it needs, you cannot differentiate between top and bottom stitches.

Thanks very much with the explanation of how to read the stitch, to properly adjust the tension. It seams to change with materials and thread size both, as well. Enjoyed the learning experience. I have 5 dead laptops and watching using an old iPhone 6 my son sent. I don’t have cell service yet, because my wallet says no! At least I have the WiFi part going. Now, at 6’ 3” tall, my fingers are too big for tiny buttons. Oh well, can’t fix it today. Thanks!

Hello, thanks for the videos I do find them very helpful, but I have a question for a problem I keep having. I have a cylinder sewing machine ikonix ks335, and I'm using nylon 69 which is what is recommended. However, the top thread keeps on unraveling (splitting) any information about this problem would be greatly appreciated, thank you from Las Vegas🎰

One request would to see some examples of what size threads to use for different products (watches, wallets, purses, handbags) for both machines and hand stitching.. Even after watching this excellent video, I'm still completely confused about what size threads to use for different projects.

Hi. Thank you for your kind words. Thread size is subjective. Some people like thicker threads, some like thinner threads. It all depends on what you think looks good for the particular project you are working on. I always suggest making a stitch sample piece of leather with different sized thread stitched in rows. You can then use this as a reference when deciding what size thread would look good for a particular project. Hope this helps.

@@HobbyBloxs That's the problem really, I don't know where to start. It would be very expensive to buy all the possible thread sizes just to try them out. I'll keep digging to see if I can find some photos or videos showing examples. So far, I haven't been able to find much. Hi Gordy; thanks so much - I have a question! What is the thickest thread you run through your 246? I also have a 246 machine. I can get a balanced stitch with Ticket 40 (Tex 80) but I can’t get a balanced stitch with ticket 20 (tex 150) thread. The top thread appears too loose, even though the top tensioner is at its tightest setting (can still see top thread under work). I have made sure it’s threaded properly (your video helped) & bobbin tension is fine. Apart from thread tension, the thicker thread works fine.

Hello Di. Thanks for your kind words. I have no experience of woven fabrics, so I can't comment. As for thread - generally any thread can be used, as long as it will fit in the needle.

Hi, based on your recommendation I bought the exact tysew cylinder machine as you have, I would like to build the same flat bed attachment that you built. Did you manage to download a template for it are did you create your own? Also the website specifically states a stitch length from 0-10mm but mine only goes up to 6mm. Is yours the same? Hello Keith. To get get the cut-out shape, just put a piece of paper on the metal plate and drawer round it to make a template. The base is just a box. I haven't had this machine for some time but I recall the max stitch size was 6. I hope that helps.

Good video for leather. I think at the beginning of the video you should mention that your machine is an industrial cylinder arm walking foot because a regular industrial machine is a single needle lock machine commonly used for fashion clothing. I think it is misleading to people unfamiliar with sewing. Also, as far as I know you can not use regular thread because the tension on a walking foot is much stronger than a domestic machine and a single needle lock machine and the thread will break. So bonded nylon or denim weight poly cotton work best on a walking foot. TY
