Terfel hit the nail on the head - it was Solti's innate ability with rhythm that made his performances so memorable and when necessary so dramatic. In Verdi for instance, most other conductors sound slack and limp, he infuses the music with such excitement which brings it to another level.

In 57:20 it was not Fricka, but Frick (referring to Gottlob Frick, who sang in the Ring the roles of Hunding and Hagen)

Thanks ever so much for pointing that out! Of course it is Gottlob Frick. The Swedish subtitles say unfortunately: "Birgit gjorde Fricka" (= "Birgit did Fricka") and therefor I wanted to comment it with: "Birgit sang Brünnhilde".

En 97/98 j'écoutais l'op.64 par Karajan en pensant à la Grande Moucherolle au petit matin... J'avais enregistré cette émission sur une K7 vidéo, je l'ai vue plusieurs fois... J'adorais la W140...mais celle de 1991, pas celle de 1994 avec ses feux sans classe... 😉
