Make that the 60's. I remember watching Carson on an old beat up black and white television in the attic of my uncle's farm house. He hired us every summer around haying time to put up hay, paid a whooping 5 bucks a day and the day went from sunrise to sunset. It was more work getting him to pay us then putting up the hay though, that tight old fart. Once he hired me out to a neighbor to dig a toilet hole, it took me the best part of one day to dig it. He charged the neighbor 25 bucks for the hole, but all I got was my 5 bucks a day. Tight old fart, may he rest in turmoil! He was not a blood relative, he simply married mom's sister (RIP).

Honestly, I had a doctor once who smoked more then I did, he was the guy who gave me a prescription for nicotine patch and gum so I could kick the habit, it worked for me! He still smokes like a chimney. He was a great doctor, he handled my disability after an accident in the squad car left me unable to be a cop any more. My attorney met with him before our court date with Workers Comp, he was amazed, he told me "Your doctor loves you!" Said he wished all his clients could use him. I won my case with ease, that was in '93. While they declared me retired and cut my paycheck in half two years ago, the bureau is still paying me, and paying for my pain related meds.

I miss those days when comedians actually did comedy, not partisan political commentary

Well, they also had the benefit back then of no twitter, and also no maniac constantly praising white supremacists or gaslighting people that a growing pandemic is nothing to worry about so that the stock market won't tank on his watch. He's putting ALL of our lives in danger on a daily basis in one way or another, yet it's "partisan" to criticize him in any way, shape, or form.

@@mercurydude Don't fret. Every single late-night "comedy" show bashes Trump incessantly. Half the country doesn't watch. It's not good for the country, no matter what you think of Trump. A lot of us want to hear a few jokes, have few laughs and go to bed with a smile with another shitty day of work to follow.

I truley miss George Burns. I was talking about him with my mother yesterday. How he always talked about his wife Gracie who had passed away. He always said he couldn't wait to see her. Always said at the end of his skits "Good Night Gracie". A true person! RIP George we miss you so much.

His dear Gracie died 25 years before this. What an amazing comedian she was. Everything she said was meant to be straight, but was a riot, Freudian slips by the hundreds and misunderstanding half of what folks said to her. Together George was straight man, Gracie was insane.
