Being grateful for your veterans... those are people who fight wars (aka kill people) in wars that are for the most part started by your government with no actual threat to your country (like those weapons of mass destruction that actually never existed) and are getting their own lives destroyed and get no support afterwards (what's their suicide rate? quite high, I believe).
