RA MO I don't know, If you know anything about Christopher Hitchens it was he hated people or entities of power, he particularly hated the way the Kurds in northern Iraq were treated and if anything I suppose he hoped a change of regime would see that change.
@tomz570410 жыл бұрын
RA MO Well now, if you have ever seen any of Christopher Hitchens his debates, you will know that first of he didnt support any particular political party (anymore). His reasons for going to war in Iraq were differant from the Bush administration and his primary concern was indeed for the secular Kurds and he admitted that Saddam should have ended in the early 90s, when most of the world would have supported the US in doing so. Besides that, and i think this is a fair point: Extremist muslims want us dead, even if the US never invaded Iraq or even Afghanistan, they would have still wanted us dead. And then of course you can claim that this is because of the way western nations have acted, and sure that might be true, but their main motivation is and remains Islam, the spreading of it by any means necessary and the death of anyone who opposes it.

david creech My vision is that America was founded by a handful of elite who knew they'd could become very rich and in doing so very powerful with the resources that this lawless land has/had. They could rebuild a new society that in the old countries by the laws of Kings and Queens (uggghhh) was not possible. But the new founding fathers yearning to be like their Kings and Queens needed modern-slaves who were seemingly free and equal to get the resources out of the ground and make the beginnings of an economy that would be larger than in the old world. This is how they came up with the suggestion of "equality" and later the "the american dream". Which was just a poster campagne to get immigrants doing the hard labor. And certainly in the beginnings (when you weren't black) you had more possibilities to grow than in over regulated war torn Europe. But now the polish has warn off and the cracks in the illusion are showing. The hard working blue collar American was nothing more than a tool to create a paper economy (where you can make money when you have money) and buy the power of the world. I do think that we the working Joe's will start an uprise once again like it had happened in Victorian times in England where the working Joe was exploited for the wealth of the rich. But like a smart man once said: "History repeats itself."

I remember thinking a lot of this starting happening in the 1980's. In North Carolina, we were know for making beautiful furniture. There were wonderful craftsmen all over the Western Part of the state where I grew up. Everyone knew someone in the furniture business. The people that worked in the plants were true craftsmen. And the hosiery mills made all the socks and all of these items were sent all over the country. Then one by one, they started sending all the work to China. People that had worked in these places made good money, had health insurance and some had even had stock in the companies. There are still a few left I guess, but not many. I remember when I was in my early 20's working at Sears. Back then, we even had stocks in the company and and when I sold anything I got a percentage of the sale. All of this is gone for the most part. My son, thankfully, is really a smart young man and became a computer engineer. That is in the Eastern part of the state. And my daughter works for a Chinese woman and makes good money working for her. She lived in China for a few years as a Designer. But the American Dream we once had is not the same.

thanks for this, dan! carlin certainly was a great man. thanks a lot for the transcript too. it will no doubt save others from having to do the work themselves. artists are our greatest truthtellers. they get away with it because they're just artists, and artistic expression isn't given proper respect. so they remain relatively obscure, as in carlin's own words: 'nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care'. of course a few of us do notice and do care, but we're far too few and far too weak. we are indeed nobodies.

I woke up to this reality in 2009 with the rise of the Tea Party. And believe me, I wish I hadn't. It's a miserable existence because, as Carlin said, "nobody seems to notice ... nobody seems to care". Just can't wait until I can leave this country.
@terrygriffin835810 жыл бұрын
And go where? Just curious.
@wollam1110 жыл бұрын
Terry Griffin I narrowed it down to Uruguay, Portugal, and Panama. All three governments actually do what the people elect them to do, instead of ignoring the masses and following the marching orders of the elite 1%.

Rodney Wollam yeah i dont third world countries are a good choice and portugal is in massive debt America is a great place but we need to clear house dont leave stay and help fix the problems we have cowards run and im sure thats not you
@wollam1110 жыл бұрын
Tony Uruguay's actually got a pretty cool 1st world city in Montevideo. Some call it 'the Paris of South America'. I probably won't leave until my house is paid off, in 2023. But, if the same thing happens in 2020 that happened in 2010 (leftists staying home cause it wasn't a Presidential election, effectively handing the right control of the House of Representatives for a decade), my decision will be sealed. As it stands since 2010, those of us on the left who want to see a return to regulating union-busting business and their pollution, the repeal of Citizens United (and a dozen other onerous rulings from the bought and paid for USSC Five), and a well funded legal aid society- have barely been keeping our heads above water.

No we won't. Don't be delusional. What world changing event is going to make the U.S. citizens take their country back? Nothing. This is the way it's gonna be in this country for as long the government continues to exist as it does.

***** Um...no we don't worship government. Are you kidding? The entire nation thinks the government are a bunch of morons and incompetent idiots. This administration has been, statistically, the least productive America has ever seen. The president is useless, congress is a pile of shit, especially because it's now GOP controlled, and, in 2014, some state governments are still struggling with the basic human right of equality by rejecting gay marriage, not to mention abortion.That's why, last presidential election, the voter count was the lowest it's been since World War II: because we realize that we basically have a choice between one pile of shit or the other. Trust me, we don't worship the government, whatsoever. We resent, and borderline despise it.
@coreyrozenblat150610 жыл бұрын
I think you have the wrong idea. I'm not the minority at all. I'm the majority. There is widespread resentment towards the government throughout the nation. Those rallies you mentioned are attended by just that, dick-suckers, not the average American citizen. Who do you know that goes to those? I've never met anyone who does. Benevolent government? Dogmatic devotion? You're joking right? Half the country hates the Obama administration. In fact, the approval rating is only 47%. You call that dogmatic devotion? Especially when you consider our totally unnecessary involvement in the middle-east which almost the entire country thinks is useless, some even say that it's terrorism in itself. You are not "freer", or whatever, than anyone else, you are the majority. We are not all brainwashed sheep trained to ride the president's dick, most of us disapprove of the administration and have a very cynical view of the government. And ESPECIALLY with the Mike Brown/Eric Garner situation, you really think anyone is showing American pride? Hell no. It's widely known that the government is full of a bunch of self-serving assholes, bribed by corporations, this is nothing new and certainly not a secret. People who disapprove of the government aren't some underground clubhouse, they are the vast majority of the country. And with so many problem with out country, from our massive debt of 18 trillion to the giant wealth gap of the 1% to problems with social security stability and healthcare coverage to prison overcrowding to our abysmal foreign policy, nobody is happy with the state of the country, CERTAINLY not worship, I should think.

Jayden Garcia The educational system is not what made me choose my religious beliefs/believing in God, that would be my free will & my intellect. You don't need much to look around at the creation of life to realize that there is a single Creator to all of this.
