Government is NOT a monolithic entity. What he is talking about is WHO is invested with political power to determine the actions of your government...be it in the county, state, or the federal level...the patrician donor class. There is no lobby for the poor in DC, hence the half-century of neoliberal deregulatory, union-busting, and special-interest peddling policymaking. All of which has given rise to a new populism, which knows no party, in reaction to the loss of social mobility, financial security, and peace of mind. Sadly, there is only one form of populism that has achieved political power today...the sort that vilifies the most vulnerable members of American society...be it welfare recipients or immigrants as an invasive other, with all of its faux, performative patriotism, folk devilry, conspiratorial narratives, hyperbole, vitriol, mendacity, falsehoods, and yes, a newfound advocacy of authoritarianism. These poor people have been commodified as voters to shift tax burdens from the wealthy onto themselves, dismantle their public education system for charters, vouchers, and private schools, and lavish every tartuffe with idolatry in believing that a criminal charlatan and wannabe strongman is an agent of a God. These Americans are a generation lost and Carlin is fortunate enough not to have seen this fascism come to fruition with their threats of civil strife and political violence at a time when the world needs American leadership most against a new axis of illiberal autocratic powers utilizing our tribalistic polarization for their gain.

@@RapunzelSA You are kidding right? Those are some of the biggest lying propagandists out there. The best on your list is Maher who is right about half the time, and the other half is either lying or willfully ignorant. He frames himself as balanced while blatantly lying in his criticisms of always one side while softballing the other. Dude is either a stooge, or a willing puppet that sold his soul for the benefits that come with being the mouthpiece for more powerful interests. The one good quality he has is that he does seem to have a baseline of real liberal principles that causes him to call out the MOST obscene or ridiculous stuff from "his team." But that's the best I can say for any of them. It all goes rapidly down hill from there. These voices ARE the controlled media of the oligarchs Carlin is talking about, and you only need to see a few examples of them wildly editing people out of context to smear them with the opposite of reality to see just how truly evil the rest of those pieces of s*** really are, as they pretend that their lies and life destroying slander are "just jokes bro" whenever they get caught. I don't think he wanted people to laugh at this. I genuinely think that here he wasn't even trying to be funny anymore. He was using his last days/moments to get us to wake the hell up

I came for the laughs. And got truth instead. Thank you george

It's like having the sand shift beneath your feet everytime I come back and have a listen or a ponder. It becomes clearer and more true.

They don’t want to face it. It’s too painful. My friends want to be entertained and call me a downer. But I’m funny. I can make them laugh, but I’m not laughing. Glad I’m the age that I am, because one lie we have been told. The truth will set you free. No, it won’t. Blinded by the light. It means the truth will break you. People can’t handle it. That’s why people love fairy tales and things like video games, movies, shopping, believing their lives and the lives of the babies they bring into the world will be fine. It won’t.

He is spot on, especially starting at 1:45…He couldn’t be more correct. It’s as if he said this today.

I'm still so sad Georgie's gone. I know he was old but I remember when this came out in 2005, and then his last one in 2008. And then he died. And it was him and Heath Ledger, in short order. Dammit

Move over Pledge of Allegiance. This needs to be presented to our children. It's obviously too late for 90% of adults in this fucked up country.

I was in my 30s the last time I watched this... I thought, God its all politics... Now I watch this and think, Sweet Jesus its all TRUE !!!

I was in my late 20's and thought that's true! But now I remember all the material from Jammin' in New York about pandemics getting one back for Mother Earth against an over-populated humanity as invasive species and think "oh no... it's ALL true........" We don't need to save the planet. The planet is going to be fine. It will just be Earth + Plastic. But WE are f*****.

Lowering the passing grade, that's what they do here in South Africa as well. Currently the pass mark for Math is 30% here in South Africa. And the very people who made it like that wonder why there has been a significant drop in the number of scientists, doctors, engineers etc here in SA.
