True, but at his passing there was very little mention of his death. I'm not sure if it was a gag of the media that Rodney Dangerfield didn't get no respect even at death, but I thought it was truly disrespectful and just low that not even Entertment Tonight didn't have a special segment of Rodney Dangerfield s career. I think Rodney loved to take risks. Isn't the rumor that Johnny Carson was a severe alcoholic? I know his real life wasn't nearly as fun and lighthearted as his show. He was a great show host but apparently his person life was a shambles. Divorces, fighting, drama, etc.
@thewoofamily89516 жыл бұрын
PS I Don't think Rodney would have been poking at Johnny, his host. He wouldn't mock him by making fun of alcoholics. Like many who suffer to this day, a lot of alcoholics NEVER show up to work drunk so the coworkers simply do not know that the person is getting drunk every day as soon as they get off work.

I saw him on Christmas Eve approximately 30 years ago at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Vegas can be a very tough crowd for performers. He had the audience eating out of his hand. Right off he starts out, I'm doing ok now, but last week it was really rough.... and away he goes. If I recall correctly he was on for about an hour and forty five minutes. I can't even begin to guess how many jokes he told. NONE of them fell flat. The crowd was laughing their assess off at his jokes. Some of them I knew the punchline on, but it didn't matter hearing them again. EX: I told my old man, you never took me to the zoo. He said, if they want you, they'll come get you. There will NEVER be another Rodney Dangerfield.

Jimmy Fallon, this is how you host a show. No fake laughs and interrupting your guest.

I agree 100 percent, but here's the deal...these talents, like Dangerfield, they don't exist anymore.

Rodney hosted this more than Carson.

You can see Carson laughing at Rodney's polished practiced perfection. Johnny's heard all these Rodney jokes dozens of times, he isn't laughing at the content but at the beauty of the delivery. They were both comedy scientists.
@joebugbee21126 жыл бұрын
The fact that Johnny is basically saying nothing, just....letting Rodney go. Brilliant. Both of 'dems
@fairmount19356 жыл бұрын
That's not true at all. While a couple of jokes may have been older, Rodney always came on the show with completely new jokes and this performance is no exception and Carson is laughing at the content. These jokes were fresh and new and part of his ongoing and ever changing stand up performances on the road.

mark french Johnny was the best straight man ever. He did his thing in the monologue not to egomaniacal to let other comedians shine.
@mikemartin20204 жыл бұрын
Well, so delighted that we give him lots of respect now. What an incredible talent. And, yes, Johnny was excellent about "bringing out" the most in his guests, and even helping those who had very little ability to be interviewed.

I remember the Johnny Carson Tonight Show years and I would NEVER miss it when I knew that Rodney would be on the show. He always crushed it and had everybody in stitches. One of the very best comedians ... ever. Just sorry I never caught his show at his club.

Man it must of been hard for Dangerfield to maintain the energy for these acts. I get exhausted just watching him go. Great comedian, one of a kind.
