What a wonderful tribute by George Clooney to his wife Amal and his parents. George is not just a great actor but he is also a wonderful human being who is caring and compassionate towards his fellow human beings, especially the poor and downtrodden. He is extremely fortunate to have Amal as his wife who shares his values and who herself is a human rights lawyer who fights for justice for people who are the victims of despotic regimes.

Unpopular opinion: I think George deserves this award. He's been acting for 40 years, involved in some humanitarian activism on the side, and is well respected and loved in the industry. Just because others deserve the award too doesn't mean he deserves it any less. Anyway, the next one is going to Denzel. I'm sure nobody is gonna have any issues with that.

George is a good (not great) actor with a lot of movie credits but none of them especially memorable. I could easily name 10-15 other actors who are far more deserving of this award. However, George is a box-office stud so the AFI pandered to the almighty dollar and gave him an award he simply doesn’t deserve. This is like electing a .250 hitter to the HOF because he’s a nice guy.

A degradation to the event. The "nice guy achievement award" is the level this rests on. The previous 45 recipients owned a height of greatness far more deserving. I can name two other men in their fifties(the white beard doesn't cut it) as the more sensible and much more relevant choice; Tom, Brad. Measure Clooney's most popular films if you can remember them? No great artistic power, no spell to administer that great feeling. I'll admit to my reaction being dramatic, but this is the same award my heroes(Ford, Kubrick, Welles, Astaire, Hitchcock) were honored with. This'll also be the last time I'll react to this AFI award, because I now no longer appreciate it. It takes a year to award film's most appreciated and a slot's been wasted leaving someone more admired without this award.
