George knows how to get right into your heart when he plays solo piano. Its amazing how many of the new age pianists from the 70's through the 80's site him as a major influence.

O George, we have so much to be thankful to you for. To hear you talk like this really brings back memories.

Aside from the work George did with Zappa and so many others plus his own releases, if you really want to hear one of the all-time great Rhodes piano performances, listen to "Heather" from Billy Cobham's _Crosswinds_ (1974). They had never played together, yet they nailed it on the first take. Michael Brecker's sax is stellar. 45+ years later and it still puts a lump in my throat. Sheer musical magic.

It's all great, but I so much prefer the looks of the RD-1000... The RD-1000 sounded amazing, very expressive, had those long wooden keys, and looked beautiful. I have problem with rather tacky looking front panel switch gear, display, and the dial on the V-Piano. Of course, thanks goodness they didn't put a color touchscreen on it or some "super knob". But still, I find the RD-1000 superior to the V-Piano, call me shallow, but that's what I truly like.
@jaggass6 жыл бұрын
Roland was ahead of their time in 86 with the RD-1000. I think the V-Piano is the true successor to it.

It takes time. You want play fast flashy rag like George Duke does here overnight, but once you get a hold of a few Scott Joplin ragtimes, playing them rather slowly. I think "slowly" is the keyword here. Most Scott Joplin ragtimes are in fact meant to be played slowly. I know it could be boring at first, but it's the only way to eventually achieve speed. Speed without accuracy and feel means nothing in terms of piano.
@johnsilver74668 жыл бұрын
he was one of the best....so underrated
@raicho208 жыл бұрын
Andrew Piatek I play piano mate, I know, but I have not played ANY ragtime. Only classical and then completely switched to jazz/pop/rock based music. Lotsa fun! :D
@dvamateur8 жыл бұрын
raicho20 Scott Joplin's ragtimes are basically classical music. No far off from say Chopin's waltzes. In fact, Joplin like Chopin's music. Yes, for most people Joplin's ragtimes are too difficult technically. But once you get down the "jumping" left hand, and some octave syncopations in the right, the patterns seem to repeat in most of his ragtimes. It's like with everything else. Once you're past the technical obstacles, it's as you say "Lotsa fun!"

George played very well. Too bad this crappy sounding rompler wasn't up to the task of sounding as good as George.
@jaggass6 жыл бұрын
It didn't use samplers it used remodelling.
@AlainHubert6 жыл бұрын
I sure hope that George was well paid for this, since it must have been very obvious to him that this Roland "modelling" crap was miles away from sounding like a real Grand Piano, on which he was used to playing. I had the opportunity to play this on a demo unit in a music store back then, and the rompler Yamaha CP5 from 2011 was even sounding better than this.
@jaggass6 жыл бұрын
Each to their own. Some keyboards VST's can get very close to sounding like a real piano. Kontakt are very good for piano sounds but its 50gb of memory. Not a fan of digital piano's and VST's as such as they don't sound as good as real piano's and have killed off the demand for them.
@Zealous_Tutorials Жыл бұрын
@@jaggass Ohh so that's what killed off demand for real piano's. I always assumed it was the $80K price tag and that fact that not everyone has a 300 square feet living room. I guess I assumed wrong.
