"There is no fear in George Foreman..."... the reason I looked up this fight is because I saw a clip of George talking about how he was scared and that his knees were shaking during that staredown. Really goes to show you that courage is not a lack of fear but the ability to overcome it. I think that's the message that should be sent by professional fighting. Anyone can be a warrior.

@Mister Jane Doe we got loma and Usyk. Canelo Will leave a good legacy. HW is poor but entertaining. There are plenty of fighters who do good and can maybe write their own history, Kambosos and Tank for example. A lot of golden era was fixed and steroids and even top tier stuff like Ali had very shadowy and dull fights. Only time will tell, but we are in a decent to good era

Joe Frazier was one of the best heavyweights period. But his one flaw was that it took him a couple of rounds to develop a rhythm. So he was always vulnerable in the first and second round. I remember once during an interview with George Foreman and he said that, one night, when he was a child, he was in the back seat of the family vehicle and he was looking at the signs of places like McDonald's, Burger King etc as they drove through a town but they were too poor to buy anything at these places and he said he just hoped, at some time in his life, he would have enough money to be able to buy something to eat from these places. Nothing but respect for such an humble man as George. And, I swear, I believe I saw him at an airport from a distance once. My mom and I were going to Germany and I wanted SO bad to go and see if it really was him and talk to him but we didn't have time because our plane was leaving soon. I still hope to have the honor of meeting him some day and asking him if he was at the airport in New York during the time I thought I saw him. I've wondered ever since that day if it was really him. I'm surprised Yank Durham didn't stop it sooner. Joe took enormous punishment. He took so many head shots in this fight as well as all three Ali fights. It's amazing he could talk and chew gum at the same time after the 2nd Foreman fight and the "Thrilla from Manila." Obviously most all fighters who fight long enough have CTE. You don't hear about it much. It's usually just former champions who stayed too long with too many fights who are identified by the Press. Most of the others just fade away with little fanfare from the media and suffer from irreparable brain damage.

Maybe you can give me a bit of insight? Joe beat Ali correct? George beat joe correct? And then Ali beat George right? And somewhere i believe Ali also beat Joe correct? So what i can't understand is how George was able to beat Joe so easily? Was Joe still hurt during this fight from Ali or something like that? And if not, how was ali able to beat george but struggled against joe? Maybe very different periods of their careers?
@JCzzzzz
@JCzzzzz 3 жыл бұрын
@@malourocha9211 I am no expert in boxing. I just love the pure ferocity that boxers of the past fight till they are dropped. Nowadays there are undefeated boxers who simply avoid getting hit. I think Foreman is the hardest puncher amongst the 3 all time greats at that time. His raw power simply gave Frazier no chance. All 3 of them punch hard too but Foreman is way more powerful. Ali only managed to beat Foreman by tiring him out via rope-a-dope. Ali managed to defeat Frazier twice, and they went to war each time. Maybe Ali is a little past his prime when Frazier and Foreman is at their best. But he boxed very cleverly and managed to beat stronger opposition in their prime. Ali refused to fight Foreman again maybe because he knows he can only trick Foreman once. And then Foreman went on to become a pastor instead. So yes, I believe Ali is a great champion because he was unstoppable in his prime and only the Vietnam war stopped him in his prime for 3 years. When he is allowed to fight again, he beat all the top boxers even though he is older and lost some of his speed. All these boxers are entertaining to watch and refs usually allow the boxer to fall before stopping the fight. Now fights are stopped way too soon

@@cygnusprime6728 of course. No one wins a fight with any heavyweight by just sticking their chin out and failing to defend. But Ali took a lot of punishment in that fight. @cygnusprime6728
@cygnusprime6728 2 жыл бұрын
@@elliotmyers625 you misunderstood. I wasn't saying Ali didn't get hit at all, and yes he was very courageous and gutsy in that fight. But people exaggerate and act like he just ate flush bombs all night and that gives credit to Ali for one thing but takes away credit for his actual skill. Ali slipped most of the punches to the head for rolled with them to minimize the damage. He made damn sure not to get hit in the head too much by pushing off the canvas and leaning even further away while against the ropes--showing flashes of his younger self. Even when Foreman landed one good hit, Ali would immediately tie him up and smother him and clinch so he couldn't follow up. The constant clinching, neck grabbing, and flurries made it almost impossible for Foreman to land a solid straight shot to the head, so he focused on the body. And yes Foreman did land some murderous shots to the body, but even then Ali managed to block some of those with his elbows or let himself get hit to the hips instead of to the kidneys or abs. He basically sacrificed his body so that he wouldn't get hit too much in the head. And if we think about it logically, lesser punchers like Henry Cooper and Frazier buzzed Ali and had him on the canvas due to their precision and timing. They threw short sharp hooks. Foreman was wild and winging caveman bombs and Ali was able to anticipate and roll with them. Again, the point I was making wasn't to act as if Ali didn't get hit, he had a hell of a chin and an even better heart and he wouldn't have won without those assets. But a lot of his success was due to the ropes, the intense heat, and a brilliant game plan that would only work 1/100. It also helped Foreman's corner acted dumb and told him to just keep hitting away.

I don't think in this fight Ali won all rounds I think before the knockout.......... he landed many punches more than foreman and his strategy in the fight made him standing in the robes or dancing in the ring dodging sorry for bad English

Possibly if he didn’t let Ali rope a dope him again. Then again Ali wouldve been 33 or 34 if they fought again, put Ali at his absolute peak against foreman fighting his normal fighting style and it’s 50/50 who wins

People can say that styles make fights and, to a large extent, this is true. Obviously Ali didn’t have the power to demolish Frazier the way George Foreman did. But the fact that Ali could withstand Foreman’s power as well as neutralize it with his defense, and then proceed to knock him out is a real testament to Ali’s diverse skills as a boxer. He was truly special among his fellow athletes.

I wish the ref had called this fight after the 1st knockdown of the 2nd round. The ref needed to protect Frazier not only from Foreman's sledgehammers to Frazier's skull, but also protect Frazier from his own will to continue. I am glad all of boxing today has the 3 knockdown rule.
