George on BBC Television with his own programme "Steppin' Out With Formby".
Here George is playing one of his all time classics "Auntie Maggie's Remedy".
He Plays this on his lovely Gibson UB-2 (Sunburst) which is now on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London

George as always. The orchestra obviously had a problem hearing him as they are dragging the beat -especially in the uke solo where they are almost a beat behind. No stage (audio) monitors in those days!

This was *standard*, Dear Banjonoises; George, himself dragging the beat in all his ukulele-solos - as witness *TT Races* - which made those solos all-his-own ! In my perception, he was, without question, the finest instrumentalist in this field. There have been so many impersonators - including me - but none (even today), can quite bring-off the exquisite style and effect as did GF on the banjo-uke or ukulele ! One now-passed pal, and Formby fan, likened George's playing to someone with a third independent playing hand, since the accompaniment he played, was often two beats behind the orchestra, as if it was a deliberate off-beat obligato, echoing his own vocal renditition !

@@alexcarter8807 No,No,he was great did not play to seggrgated audiences in South Africa. Britain sold out to USA every 1950s British film had to have some 2bit US actor in it and try and copy US glamour they didn't work.
