The European project is starting to be like the Habsburg Empire. But it has an important qualitative deficiency. It has hypocritical Irish tax dodgers (Bono, Geldof) providing the supporting noise for the rulers. At least the Habsburgs had Mozart, Strauss, Beethoven, etc... And we are 100 years on from the maddening climax in French efforts to end the Habsburg Empire - a four century policy obsession that started in the 1600s, and caused the worst wars of Europe. Friedman is very accurate in his understanding of the predicament of Eastern European countries, having to survive the cruelties of regimes in Berlin and the Kremlin for centuries. Poland and Romania are the two countries most capable of resisting the machinations of both - and capable of comprehending that Paris will always put it's own interests first, and will betray them when it suits them.

It's interesting to contrast what George has to say against what Peter Zeihan has to say on subjects like Japan. One thing I think he got wrong is about the president. I think President Trump made a real difference on national and global attitudes towards China, which I don't think a President Clinton would have done. So while his point is valid overall, the choice of president can be geopolitically significant.

A stronger Poland is a good thing and this goes for the other Eastern European states, too. However, the EU should remain intact and it should be properly negotiated how far it can go and to what extent the nation states keep their sovereignty. Ukraine should associate with the EU AND with Russia and Russia and the EU should be engaging in free trade. When it comes to the alliance between Romaina, Poland and the USA, it might well be the case that Germany and others are accepting this circuit because the indirectly influence it via their influence in the USA, Poland and Romania. When it comes to free trade in general the issue is not free trade , the issue is that it unproportionally grows a few centers and not much else if progress, modernization, the creation of new industries and businesses is not encouraged and incentivized properly. So free trade with a proper education, modernization, investment "offensive" is a great thing. Greece and the rest of the EU "periphery" should be given the possibility to recover like that. The Euro should be of such strength that it reflects the average strength of all the Eurogroup countries. When it comes to Scottland, it might well be the case that there will be another referendum post-Brexit and this time the Scottish might well vote to get out of the UK and back into the EU. This entire thing about "japan needs/wants a Navy with carrier battle groups" is a really bad thing and these thoughts should perish! The Japanese are an over aged society that is fairly well industrialized and it could do well with a less aggressively nationalistic and the entire fuss around naval control could easily be settled by means of the USA and China reaching an agreement and this goes for the Australians, too. The Chinese want to develop and the Japanese could be a great partner in that. When it comes to North Korea, partnering with the Chinese could be the easiest way for the Americans to finally end this regime and have the Koreas reunite.
@420Patriot17765 жыл бұрын
Till-Ulrich Hepp >However, the EU should remain intact and it should be properly negotiated how far it can go and to what extent the nation states keep their sovereignty Amerifag here, I agree in a perfect world, but lmao at that ever happening in the EU. America is lucky because we killed off most of our natives in order to cement a so called "American dream" mindset into those who wished to immigrate here. In doing that, our people found resources in bumfuck nowhere America and exploited them without having to deal with different governments and/or cultural beliefs while making boatloads of money to at towards the state. I'm not saying Europe should scrap or even mix her diverse (ORIGINAL) heritage by any means (as I see it happening in the US with European cultures, and I don't like it), but there's no such way to get things done in the EU unless you're a superpower (France/Germany) or can develop a "poor me" response to anything that goes against your nation/people/culture (remember Grexit in 2015 And how that worked out?). For those who are worried in mainland Europe, your best bet for getting anywhere in the world OUTSIDE OF EUROPE is to rely on the U.K. to negotiate for you. You will look back and realize how damn lucky you were to have Brexit happen, as she's already working on this for you. That statement doesn't apply to Poland/Romania/other intermarium nations, however, since you have direct American backing. Good luck Europe!

Poland is only strong because German industry built it from 1990 to 2018. Poles abroad worked for less because Poland was a 3rd world country till 1997. Poland was cheap labor and a "low culture". The Japan / China dynamic (24.45- ) “...but deploying a carrier battle group is an enormously complex undertaking...it would be very difficult for China to fight a war...” So would have been building the Great Wall of China! UN migration and immigration policy is based on the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees. In 1951, the world had about 2.5 Billion people and the definition of 'refugee' was strictly and narrowly defined in the context of individual political dissenters of record, or groups facing genocide. Since 1951, the global population has surged to 7.5 Billion and overpopulated failed states with high birth rates in the Islamic and Developing world are hemorrhaging their excess population across borders. Also, the legal definition of 'refugee' has been expanded to include criminals facing execution, persons with chronic communicable disease needing treatment, women in abusive personal relationships, homosexuals, the mentally ill, people from cities with criminal gang problems, the destitute aged, anyone living in a war zone, and people 'fleeing poverty who want a better life'. All are now regarded as 'refugee' candidates if they request asylum in a Western welfare state, which must provide them with legal counsel and welfare benefits on a par with its own citizens while their case is argued in your courts. Heads up. It is not 1951 anymore folks. The global population is headed north of 10 Billion by 2050 and if you do not want your children and grandchildren to live like wretches from some of the worst places on earth, opening your borders is not a good idea. People living nightmarish lives bring their nightmares with them and they will not assimilate into your society. They will outbreed you and you will assimilate into theirs.
@chairde5 жыл бұрын
Laurence Flynn , Europe and Asia are having awful population declines. The young can’t take care of the older generation and its needs. Poland was completely raped by both Germany and Russia for the entirety of world war two, 17% of the population died Compare that with Germany, where about 8% died or Russia which lost average 13.7% (but they used other countries in their empire as canon fodder, for instance Belarus lost 25%, while Russia only 12%) Poland is doing great now because it is Europe's cheap labour. This is as unsustainable as Germany's position.
