Not a single wasted note was ever played when George played slide guitar. He crafts such memorable lines that are lyrical and musical, not to mention having timing, tone and touch in spades. All this and a superb song writer, a gentleman by everyone's account plus a Beatle. We need your spirit, wisdom and music more than ever in this crazy world. You are forever missed.

EXACTLY the same thing happened with me. Total shocker. Normally, got up and booked out as the credits rolled, but then this unkonwn song came on with the haunting slide guitar and I stuck around long enough to hear a voice that was unmistakably George. I remember turning to a friend who was there with me and saying "I think this is George Harrison." He shrugged his shoulders becasue that didn't mean anything to him. But to me, it was just pure gold. Stayed til the end of the song and didn't want the song to stop. Went out and searched for it, but the only thing I could find at Tower Records was the incredibly horrible soundtrack to the film which had an utterly forgettable Clapton cover of Knockin' on Heavens Door and an embarassing Beach Boys song that was all Mike and zero Brian (never a good thing). I remember liking the film at the time. . .then I happened upon it about 15 years later on TV and found it almost completely unwatchable. The song was released years later on a "Best of GH Vol 2" collection. Cheer Down is still my fav post-ATMP song by George [and there are a LOT of good songs he wrote after 1970]. In my opinion, this counts as the BEST solo-Beatle recording that almost nobody ever heard of. At least that's the impression I have when I speak with most people who are familiar with the Beatles. They all know Imagine, My Sweet Lord, Gimme Some Truth, Band on the Run, Handle With Care, Jet, It Don't Come Easy, etc. Most have never even heard of this song. . .which is strange as this has nearly 2.5 mil views. Maybe it's finally getting its moment in the sun?
@JoelUngar2 жыл бұрын
@@mickrabinhe-him-hispronoun6304 I've long said that "Hey Bulldog" is the best Beatles recording that almost nobody has heard of, and you make a good argument for "Cheer Down" on the solo front. Listening to it again right now.

@larrygeetar93095 жыл бұрын
90% of his slide work was done in standard tuning, not blues style in open E, D, G, etc. He did play that style but mainly on recordings. It's a testament to his knowledge of the guitar fretboard. By playing in standard pitch, he played those beautiful melodies just as he would have if he were not playing with a slide. He knew the notes and had a wonderful sense of melody. George was rather underrated as a player, especially for slide guitar. His intonation was perfect, his notes were clear, and he understood that slide guitar is just that - sliding. Sounds silly but it's true. George and his instrument were one.

George is so relaxed here. The performances on this tour showed just how great and natural he was. Considering he didn’t really like touring he was excellent when he chose to be. I think ultimately after the Beatles broke up he was a part time musician and he wrote and recorded when he felt like it. A fantastic talent and he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace George. x.

He is not the most technically gifted guitarist or the fastest shredder in the world...but he is George Harrison. He is a Beatle.... and being a Beatle means his guitar playing and songs have been heard and appreciated by millions and for future generations to come. Cant beat that.

No one plays slide guitar as clean, tasteful, sparing, and as much in service to the song as George Harrison. Trust me, it takes skill to be able to play bottleneck slide as cleanly and with as much control as George.
