"George Harrison's Final Years: A Deep Dive into the Last Chapter of a Legend"
George Harrison, 58, passed away on November 29, 2001, just before 1:30 p.m. Pacific time. His wife and son were present, and a few significant, close friends were also present, chanting, singing, and praying. Olivia Harrison described it as a "deeply beautiful moment... he yearned to be with God." Harrison's body was wrapped in a silk blanket, slathered in holy water and perfumed oils, and taken care of by Hollywood Forever Cemetery personnel in less than twenty minutes. After being driven to UCLA Medical Center in an unmarked white van, his body was cremated in ten hours during a straightforward Hare Krishna ceremony that included a Bhagavad Gita reading.
Olivia and Dhani Harrison were already on their way to Switzerland with his ashes when word of his passing spread. Later, these were dispersed at Allahabad, the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers-the three holiest rivers in Hinduism-during a covert ceremony postponed to prevent fans and the media from snooping around.
Harrison's spiritual journey could be said to have started in Benares, which is nearby. It was there in the late summer of 1966 that he went with Ravi Shankar and experienced a transformative glimpse of a "bliss" that fame, wealth, pop music, and the likes of John, Paul, and Ringo could never quite provide. Harrison's ashes were also distributed there. For individuals who thought that spirits "nipping through" reincarnation.
He was at last home to those who believed in reincarnation and souls "nipping through the astral plane." Harrison's final journey to the holy city of Benares, which took place over 35 years after his initial one, demonstrated an impressive dedication to the pursuit of self-knowledge, even for those with a more skeptical disposition. Few musicians posed as many uncomfortable questions, both of themselves and of of God, of life itself. He was ready to hear some answers.
“When I met George he said his ambition was to have no ambition,” Olivia Harrison said. “And I think he achieved that. For the last five years he felt like that. He was free to go.”

I was very sad and angry. I remember reading around May of 2001 that his cancer had metastasized, and I knew it was over. The day he died, I took a fresh pack of cigarettes, scrunched them up and threw them away. I haven't smoked a cigarette since Nov. 29, 2001. I miss you, George. I listen to your solo stuff these days more than I do the others. Hare Krshna.

I was heartbroken when I saw it in the paper that George had died. His death was mentioned on the December 1st newspaper. I bought every single local newspaper that mentioned his death back in 2001.

Thanks for your testimony. I had a heart attack after I had just turned 58, have never smoked a cigarette since. Paul has written many beautiful songs with Lennon, but believe he and George would have also, had the Lord granted George more life. "Something" / "Here Comes The Sun"/ It's All Too Much"..were some of the most memorable songs penned by George, of course there were many. many more, included my favorite of his "While My Guitar Gently Sleeps", looking forward to seeing him in the after life.

Paul Simon said this about his friend, George Harrison: “He was an extraordinary guy; everybody knows that. Amazing person, not just a musician but really brave, open, kind. Just a certain percentage of him was Beatles, but the rest, he was just regular. Just interested in life, interested in the world, interested in the mind. A pleasure to hang out with him.” I was crushed when George passed away, because I had loved him since I was 7 years old and saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. I’ve read everything about him and listen to his solo work all the time.

i'll always love him!! George Harrison was a spiritual artist. He sought after greater purposes of life and gave music to his inner feelings and revelations in a rock era which was itself a challenging task to do.The depth of his songwriting and performances is unparalleled many of his songs have a real zenful effect. And then of course his amazing slide. He was really unique! George goes beyond The Beatles. That's my opinion. The depth of his songwriting and performances is unparalleled his songs have an amazing zenful effect. George lived a spiritual journey of devotion towards what he felt was ultimate truth and played that tune and sang no matter what the whole world said or criticized.

Great Video! Thank you for showing this to all of Georged fans. I loved George and his Beatle buddies since that Sunday Night, February 9th, 1964. I was 8 years old. My older Brother Mark bought every Beatle 45rpm and Album since. I would sit on my bed a listen over and over. George became my favorite after he released his epic album " ALL THINGS MUST PASS" I couldn't stop listening. When I got my car, My Buddy Sal put in an 8-track tape player. I bought a copy of "All Things Must Pass" for my Car! Then 1971 Comes and George performs at his "CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH". I bought the Triple album 💖

George certainly loved life and lived the best he knew how. He died a couple of months after 9/11. Being part of a Rock 🪨 Band at 14 and traveling to Germany with his new found friends. The Beatles accepted him because at that age he could play guitar 🎸. He was the youngest of the Beatles and in Hamburg when officials found out he wasn’t of working age. He was deported back to England the rest of the guys took off soon after. The Beatles were back together again and playing back in clubs. He was their lead guitarist and the Beatles wouldn’t have been complete if George hadn’t been part of the group. It’s great seeing the picture before he died he had gotten together with Paul and Ringo. George Harrison also wrote and recorded great songs.

We all go through stages in our lives where life and death don't often cross our minds for years and then one day we are faced with the mortality of someone else or ourselves and then it's ALL we can think about. So many people have passed away that meant a lot to me and now there isn't a day that goes by that in some former way, death crosses my mind unlike all the decades I spent never thinking about it. What I have learned is that death is a part of life. Those are easy words to say and write, but when you take your eyes off the screen and your fingers off the keyboard and you just sit in silence and think about what it all means, it is one sobering and poignant feeling you will get deep inside where your emotions live. We will all experience this at some point and none of us will escape its affects on our soul.

That brought a tear to my eye. On the day of Georges passing, i was in my garage sweeping the floor after having a tidy up and going through a heap of records and other stuff. I heard the news on the radio. It wasn't a total surprise as he was very unwell but really saddening nevertheless . Two of The Beatles gone... I shed a few tears as i worked. When i swept everything into a pile i noticed what looked some paper stamps in the pile. I picked them up and they were two Beatle stamps (big in the 60's) that had fallen out of my Magical Mystery Tour double EP. It was one of George and one of John stuck together. And i thought well maybe John and George are together somewhere like these two stamps were.

Pojechałem go odwiedzić. Był bardzo chory, mógł tylko leżeć. Byłem u niego, gdy był już w kiepskim stanie... Leciałem do Bostonu, bo moja córka miała guza mózgu. Powiedziałem: 'No cóż, muszę lecieć do Bostonu', a on na to: 'Chcesz, żebym leciał z tobą?!' To były ostatnie słowa, które do mnie skierował. Taki właśnie był nasz George". Po tej wypowiedzi Ringo Starr nie mógł powstrzymać łez. To było do bólu wzruszające. 😥

Dude, your title is misleading. Why don't you title this the last TWO years of his life? You start out in Jan. 2000, and he died in Nov. 2001... almost two years later.

What surprises me are the ones that were given the death sentence and converted to life due to being unconstitutional. Usually a life sentence of this type of offense comes with a "no possibility of parole". Why are these senseless murderers given chance of parole?
