George Hook & Alison O'Connor Go Head to Head on Female Politician Abuse | The Tonight Show

Claire Brock is joined by George Hook, Alison O'Connor & Aodhán Ó Ríordáin to discuss the abuse female politicians face.
George Hook tells Claire that, "there is a price to pay about public life."
He states that the abuse of politicians is "not a female issue."
Aodhán Ó Ríordáin tells him that as a male politician, the abuse he faces is "completely different to what [his] female colleagues go through."
"There is no comparison to the comments on how they dress; what their hair looks like; their physical appearance; and the sexualised nature of commentary around them."
When asked how high the price must be to be in the public eye, George Hook tells the panel he does not know.

Why are they arguing over something that doesn't exist? You can't abuse someone when they deserve it. I think we have real issues to talk about.

Why can`t they put the whole conversation up as this is only a snippet, it is without the full context. As from what i can gather from this conversation i agree with both sides, however i know what George is getting at, that if one works in a public facing position that it is inevitable that abuse will be a part of your job, although the levels of ferocity will differ more towards the female side, with women being the more sensitive and vulnerable in general, and when out in public after such comments as described, will have higher level of fear attached. No one should have to suffer such nastiness even if they are in the wrong or have made a mistake or miscalculation.
