People who wonder why Elvis had his band,an orchestra and 2 backup groups when he went back to live shows ,the reason was the big stages! It helped to fill the stage with sound!

I met George at a fan night in Dublin many years ago. it was a thrill as he was the first of Elvis' circle that I ever met. A nice guy who had time for everyone.

People all over the WORLD travel to Graceland because of Elvis' influence and you are so right when you say HIS contribution to the economy of Memphis, TN is unsurpassed. I just wish Elvis had gotten the chance to realize just how influential he had become.

If people actually think about it, most of what others say about Elvis is very contradictory. It's apparent he liked control, he took his crew of merry men with him when he made films so he could call the shots, they were paid by him so had to do it his way, he was paid by the studio so had to do it their way. It seems obvious to me that if had to be told what to do he sure as hell was going to be surrounded by flunkys who did what he was going to say, some had tiny background parts in the movies, they weren't really needed at all and could have easily been replaced with professional actor's. But Elvis made sure that if he was in the movie a few of his band/ buddies had small parts, mainly to give him some kind of control on the film set, he was ordering around the extras etc. I'm sure Parker would have preferred to have just Elvis in the film and let the film makers make the film's, they would have been slightly more polished film's without having many unneeded extras filling screen time. One thing for sure is that he either was his own man and did things his way or he was just following Tom Parkers orders. Obsessive fans say if he did something great it was all his own doing and if parts of it were wrong it was Tom Parkers fault. This attitude is like that from overbearing parents who never accept that their child does something wrong, it must be someone else's fault, someone led them astray etc. Those kids end up spoilt, deluded and thinking no matter what I do someone else will always be blamed. Parker was his manager/Agent, not his father, the person you work for doesn't spend all his waking hours wondering if you are ok or if you can do the work set down for you, he provides you work he thinks you can do and you get paid for it. Same as an agent, you're boss may pay you 20 bucks an hour to repair someone's car and charge the customer a 100 bucks an hour. Sure he has a lot of other expenses and works to provide you with work. You don't start screaming at him saying I do all the work yet you get 5 Times as much as me do you? Well you might do lol, the point is that's how life work's. Parker may have taken a higher % than other agent's, but Elvis agreed with it, Parker being an illegal immigrant meant there was no legally binding contract to do so, Elvis and everyone around them would have known this. They all kept quiet and played their taxes
