This is quite similar to Vipassana meditation. One learning the technique first begins to develop subtlety in his awareness by simply observing the breath without controlling it, and then by paying attention to sensations on the body without reacting to them; by remaining equanimous to all sensations no matter how pleasant or unpleasant. By doing this one begins to realize how interconnected mind and body are as his awareness probes deeper into his subconscious mind.
